Opal Honaker Obituary

POUNDING MILL, Va. – Opal Plaster Honaker, age 85, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2007, at her home following a lengthy illness. Born Aug. 15, 1921, in Tazewell County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Andrew Henry and Rachel Roberta Wilson Plaster. She was a charter member of Gethsemane Baptist Church and Steelesburg Homemakers Club. Opal was also a member of the Gethsemane Quilters. She was a registered nurse and was a supervisor at Mattie Williams Hospital for 35 years.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Beve Honaker, who died June 12, 2007; and one brother, Andrew Plaster.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Vonda and Lee Kidd of St. Paul; one granddaughter, Leah McCall and husband Thomas of Maryville, Tenn.; and one great-granddaughter, Madeline Leigh McCall of Maryville; caregivers Sue Honaker, Bernice Hagy and Geraldine Houchins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2007, at Gethsemane Baptist Church at Richlands with the Stafford Compton, the Rev. John Charles, the Rev. James Denton and the Rev. Lee Kidd officiating. Entombment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill. Pallbearers will be Bob Lester, Don Matney, Jim Boyd, Shaw Honaker, Lonnie Honaker, Perry Woosley, Bob Ramey, Brian Cantrell and Jim Singleton. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. James McVey, Dr. Ernest Moore, Clyde Barrett, Claude Barrett, Clarence Vance and men of Gethsemane Baptist Church. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Friday at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff.
Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may make memorial contributions to Gethsemane Baptist Church, 2902 Clinch Street, Richlands, VA 24641.
