Ora Temple Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 29 to May 10, 2023.
Ora Dee Temple, 95, of Paisley, Oregon, passed away April 6th, 2023 at his daughter's home in LaGrande, Oregon from natural causes. A memorial service will be July 8th at the Hines Pavilion, S.E. Circle Drive in Hines, Oregon beginning at 1:00PM. A lunch reception will follow.

Ora was born in Burns, Oregon on July 6th, 1927 to Ruby and JC Temple. He had three brothers and two sisters.

After graduating from Crane High School, like so many of "the greatest generation," enlisted in the United States Army and then Air Force. He met his wife (of 72 years), LaVonna Farhni from South Dakota while stationed in Tacoma, Washington.

Upon returning home, he and his wife moved back to the family ranch near Burns until he took a job with the United States Forest Service in Paisley in 1954. After five years they transferred to Lakeview until he was promoted as the Fire Management Officer in Paisley, where he retired in 1979.

Ora and LaVonna lived in Paisley for 58 years. Ora loved his life in Paisley and his many friends. He was also a devoted husband and father.

Always civic minded, Ora was founder of the Paisley Lions Club, served on City Council and Library Board, was an active member of the Methodist Church, and was and EMT volunteer. Ora coached high school boys and girls basketball on and off for twenty years.

Ora enjoyed hunting and fishing, camping, local cattle drives and brandings, playing in pinochle and bridge marathons, driving school bus, and the many family gatherings during holidays and yearly family reunions.

Ora is survived by his wife LaVonna; daughters DeeAnn (Ralph McAllister), Lanette, Jim Roe (deceased), Toni (Lawrence Hand), Carol (Grady OConnor); 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, his older brother John; and many relatives in Burns and the surrounding area. He was preceded in death by his parents; Ruby and JC; two sisters, and two brothers, and most recently his son-in-law Jim Roe.

For those wishing to make a contribution in Ora's memory, the family suggest the City of Paisley water project.
