Thank you Peruchine, for inviting me to your home in San Juan, where we became friends listening to Dianne Reaves and Percy Heath. Thank you for sharing your encyclopedic knowledge of Latin Jazz, you were my teacher in that regard. But you knew more about American Jazz than I, always talking about Lou Donaldson and Milt Jackson. You loved those guys. And Bola Sete. Loved him too. And you too, not only had knowledge of the music, you also had it in your soul, as Charles Mingus said - you were a damn good percussionist. Mainly though, you were an outstanding human being; a man who loved his family, a man with a generous spirit and a compassionate heart. It´s corny, but I´ll say it still: You made the world a better place. We´ll never forget the joy and the love that you shared so abundantly with us all.

In 2021 I had the immense pleasure of interviewing Mr. Cepeda in his home. I was starstruck, to say the least. Mr. Cepeda and his wife were extremely gracious and kind to me. I enjoyed hearing all the stories Mr. Cepeda shared, about his career and his early days in baseball. I left that interview with so much respect for what he achieved in his career. He was charming and had a sparkle in his eyes, he lit up talking about the game of baseball. I will never forget meeting him and his wife. May he rest in peace.
