Orlando Clark M.D.

Dr. Clark was our ship's physician on the TSS Texas Clipper for the 1971 Summer School at Sea program out of Galveston TX. Although I knew him only for the ten weeks at sea I found him to be a remarkable man. He would allow me to play the piano with him in the ship's lounge and we had many interesting conversations on music, ships, history, and ports of call. I was a seventeen year old Texas Maritime Academy Preparatory Cadet at the time.

I found my international vaccination book from that cruise and saw that he was the one that signed it. The Internet led me here. RIP good Doctor.

I would like to pay tribute to Dr. Orlando Clark, who for many years was a sincere and trusted friend to me and my late husband, Dr. Robert Lyon. Orlando had a passion for literature, music and just about everything San Francisco.

When I used to participate in the Decorator's Showcase, he was in attendance every year, exhibiting a keen interest in the architecture, design -and history - of every home.

During his long and distinguished career as a San Francisco physician, specializing in internal medicine, Dr. Clark earned the trust and confidence of his patients, as well as the respect and admiration of his fellow colleagues.

There is a well-known Swedish proverb that states, “Friendship doubles our joy and divides our grief.” For all of us who knew Orlando, his presence did just that. He is with the Lord now, and our loss is Heaven's gain. Orlando, we will always miss and remember you.

Orlando was a great friend and neighbor for more than three decades. I shared his passion for the symphony, opera, jazz and fine art. Even in his last days, he was able to sing from memory every word and verse of "I Left My Heart In San Francisco," one of his favorite songs. Orlando, you will be truly missed.
