Oscar P. ‘Jay’ Middleton Jr.Oscar P. “Jay” Middleton Jr., 83, of Dalton, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, at his residence.Jay was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Camden County to the late Mr. and Mrs. O.P. Middleton Sr.He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dalton, and a veteranof the U.S. Army serving during WWII. In his early years he worked in the familytimber business, then going to work for Thiokol Chemical Co.When Thiokol closed, Jay became the property manager at Cabin Bluff and in 1979 he moved to Cordele and became a Burger King franchisee, where he resided for 16 years, until moving to Dalton.Services are Thursday, at 11 a.m. at the Waverly United Methodist Church with the Rev. William Ligon officiating. Burial will be at Homeward Cemetery with military honors.Pallbearers will be John McCarthy, Jim Johnson, Cal Smith, Albert Allen, MarkMiddleton and Dave Brown. Honorary pallbearers are Meredith “Tripp” Hill III, Chris Middleton, Ray Odom, Lawrence Tondee, Cloris LeBlanc, George Mosley, Asa Jones, Jesse Eason, Bill Wilson, Bob West, Pope Dice, Larry Gable and Cecil Bowen.The family will receive friends todayfrom Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys from 6: p.m. until 8 p.m.Survivors include his wife, Edith P. Middleton of Dalton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sheryl M. Johnson of St. Marys, Sharon M. and David Brown of Culpepper, Va., Kelly E. and Chris Bock III of Dalton; three sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas P. and Joanie Middleton of Waverly, L. Kenneth and Brenda Bennett Jr. of Monticello, William E. Bennett of Mount Home, Tenn.; sister and brother-in-aw, Joyce M. and Bob West of Waverly and brother and sister-in-law,James H. and Anne Middleton of Waverly; five grandchildren, Jim M. Johnson, Thomas P. Middleton, Cara Lisa Middleton, Suzanne B. Hardin, Craig M. Bock; four great- grandchildren, Gavin T.
