Not sure what to say?

I am a cold war USMC veteran. I saw gratifying episode of "The Big Attack" which depicted the 7th Army NCO school. The First Sergeant in that episode exemplified the kind of wise and humane leadership that I had learned. When I saw that then MSgt SAPP was the technical advisor, I knew he had to have had those attributes. I never knew him, but from that one glimpse, I knew he must have been a great man, who helped other men grow into greatness. I have no doubt of the Source of his character. God bless his family and all those touched by his life.

SGM Sapp was a true inspiration in my life and that of my sister. I was one of the first Golden Girls in 1975 and my sister joined in 1978. To this day we both still share memories of him. He was a wonderful person who instilled high values and discipline in us all, which is something that today's students do not get from their teachers. We shall always remember him.

SGM Sapp was certainly a positive influence on my life through the JROTC program at Central. The SGM is one of the only instructors from high school whose philosophies still impact my life today. It was such a joy to share in the celebration of memories just a few years ago in Macon. I am happy to have interacted with SGM Sapp at that reunion. He called me by the nickname he gave me, "Little Bit", even after all those years, and he asked about my brother who passed away in 99, that meant a lot to me. You need words like, exemplary, brave, integrity, excellence, and mentor to describe SGM Sapp. His memory will live on in the lives of those whose lives he so graciously touched.

The SGM will continue to be the standard by which all soldiers are judged. I have never met another like him in my 26 years of service in our Army. His lessons are life-long, and they never go out of style. He was the epitome of the professional soldier. One of his enduring lessons to me was "Always do the right thing, whether anyone is watching or not". I wish each of my children had the opportunity to be mentored by such a wonderful man...he lives on in our hearts, and for many of us - he is in our daily decision making cycle. He'll be missed, but never far away.

SGM Sapp's spirit will be around for a long time. He touched more people in a positive way than he will ever know. I still see him or hear him when I do certain things. I always felt honored to have known him. His influence has shaped many lives and his code will continue for generations. "The final test of a leader is that he leaves behind him in other men the conviction and the will to carry on" May God go with you. Thank you SGM Sapp.

i am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Sgt. Mjr. Sapp. By reading the other entries in this guess book I see I'm not the only one. I will never forget the life lessons he instilled in me and will continue to practice what he preached. He will be dearly missed. I was a cadet under him from 1975 through 1977. I was a Southwest student. My prayers are with his family.

Our family was saddened to hear about the SGM. When one thinks of a soldier or looks up the definition of soldier in the dictionary, SGM Sapp's picture should be there. Both my brother and I were both positively influenced when we were in JROTC under the SGM's watchful eye. SGM Sapp was a great American and I personally will always remember the lessons that he imparted to the cadets of Lanier and Central HS. He will be greatly missed.

I am very saddened by our loss. We may be a little poorer, but heaven is now much richer. The SGM will live on in all of the lives he touched as well as the lives that he has touched through us. I wish my son could have met him.

I'll never forget SGM Sapp and the times I spent in his company. He was such a leader and we learned so much from him. He sure got our attention when required, but we knew it was because he was leading us to be as close to perfection as we would ever experience. To be in the company of greatness was a blessing to me, forever. I will miss the hope of seeing him again and my prayers are with his family.

I studied under SgtMaj Sapp in JROTC from '77-79. I attended Southwest High School, but was bussed to Central High 2nd period for class. He was such an inspiration that when I graduated U.S.Marine bootcamp from Paris Island S.C. the first person I wanted to see when I got home was The SgtMaj. He is no doubt carrying out his orders in Heaven.
Keep 'em polished SgtMaj. We'll miss you down here.

My daddy took me to get my hair cut before school started at Lanier so I might get off on the right foot.
That didn't work... First time we all lined up SGM. Sapp got in my face and told me to get another hair cut...did not hurt me a bit. Now that I am a bit older...I sure appreciate all the guys from Lanier days. God Bless Ya'll.

Ma'am,
Know that as long as we The Golden Boots are alive SGM Major will be alive in us and we will instill what he taught us in our children and those around us. You are the unsung hero of the team and together you and SGM touched many lives in ways you may never know. During 26 years of service I leaned on 3 things when times got tough and hard decisions had to be made 1st my God, 2nd My family, and 3rd the lessons SGM instilled in me. I am always here for you no matter what your need may be. I know SGM would have done the same for my family. May God Confort you now and in the future. All our love! Mark, Patty, and Shania Gerecht

SGM Sapp was a great influence on me as a teacher, mentor and ROTC instructor when I was a young man. I have never met another soldier in the long years of my military career that exhibited the high standards, technical competence and character of the SGM. Although I haven't seen him in years, I think about his ideals and leadership every day. I will truly miss him. The country has lost a great leader.

Never before have I met a man that just left me in awe. SGM Sapp taught me the meaning of being a "real soldier". He had the guts of the toughest man a person could meet, but had a heart of gold. Not only did I have the pleasure of being in JROTC with him for 4 years, I even had the opportunity to be able to serve him, as his nurse in the hospital, and recall old times with him. He had never forgotten me, nor my other family memebers that were involved in JROTC as well. He will certainly never be forgotten by me or any others whose lives were touched by him. I will miss him dearly.

To the Sapp family we express our deepest sympathy during this time of your loss. As a former "Golden Boot" and "Color Guard Commander", I can't tell you enough how SGM molded, inspired and instilled in me the hard work and values I keep to this day and pass to everyone that I can especially my children. Few people can say that they had someone come into their life and set the tone for their future, SGM did just that for myself as well as others that came through the program at Central High School. It is with great honor that I can call him a mentor and a friend. Thank you Mrs. Sapp for sharing this wonderful soldier with us.

Love Always,
