We lived next door to Ossie on Pine Street for 10 years. He was an awesome neighbor who loved to keep an eye out on the neighborhood. I remember the day when my husband was at work and I was at home. A mouse skittered across my floor, and I let out a scream. It was summer, and the windows and doors were open. Ossie heard me scream, and came rushing over to see what had happened. He laughed in only the way Ossie could laugh, asked me where the mouse went. He got down on his hands and knees onto the floor and crawled around the living room looking under the sofas and furniture for the rodent. While he never found the critter, he did find it funny enough to share the experience with my husband, and the two laughed about it for a long time afterward.
After the March, 2006 tornadoes that tore through our neighborhood and left us all without electricity, Ossie hooked up to our generator power source not for heat or necessities; he hooked up long enough to watch his ball games on TV. Funny funny man.
Our grandchildren loved to climb onto his front porch when he was out on his porch swing and swing with him.
I'm sorry that we didn't make it to his memorial. We were with him at Hester's services, and wish that we had known earlier of his passing.
You and Hester are one again, Ossie. Love you dearly, and we will miss you.

Mr. Ossie was a sweetheart! When I was a student at LHS I could always count on him cheering us on at the home Basketball games. I was even blessed to be in the same bowling league with him. There were not many people like Mr. Ossie he cared about young people.
