Bishop Otha M. Hayes was a great preacher, church builder, and quick thinker. I heard his exegesis of Psalm 23 at a General Convocation at Hayes Memorial Holy Church(approx. 20 years ago) and I am still impacted by the words, "The LORD Is MY Shepherd." He proclaimed a living Word.
He designed the New Mount Moriah United Holy Church in Farmville, a magnificient edifice, sponsored a radio broadcast emphasizing, "You Don't Have Nothing If You Don't Have Jesus," and was "man before his time" in several arenas.
He sought to proclaim "Jesus" and was well aware that his was a treasure in an earthen vessel. I commend his family to God, remember his service to God and humanity, and trust God's will.
Peace,
A Servant of God

Bishop Hayes was a good friend of mine. He was a powerful man of God who I highly respected. He will be missed. I just got the news today and my heart is broken because I did not know he was in the hospital. I learned alot being around him and I must say that he truly was a Prophet of God. He will be missed dearly.
