Otis Davis

To the family, many, many friends, and fans of the award-winning track and field athlete Mr. Otis Davis. Mr. Otis Davis was a track and field athlete who won two Olympic gold medals for the United States in the 1960 Rome games. We will miss Mr. Otis Davis's presence and his many contributions to his community and the Olympics track and field games. May the love and the special memory you shared and cherish with him show just how much your life was touched by him. May you find comfort in your wealth of fond memories together with Mr. Otis Davis. May the God of comfort bless your grieving hearts with strength, loving kindness and peace as the world copes with the loss of Mr. Otis Davis. He will be greatly missed but not forgotten.

In the 1960´ Otis wanted to run in a meet in Springfield, Oregon for a warm-up for the Olympic Games. The meat was a regional meet for the local high schools in the Eugene Springfield area.. I ran in that race, back then it was called a 440 race. Please don´t ask how I did. LOL

As a young boy living in Eugene, I heard about Otis. From then on, I wanted to be a track athlete, specifically a quarter-miler. Meeting and hanging out with Otis in 2015 was an honor when he received the Distinguished Alumni Award at the University of Oregon. Co-hosting the celebration for Otis, the Grand Marshal of the 2016 U.S. Olympic trials, was also a privilege. Your legacy will endure, Otis. My condolences to your family. May you rest in peace, my dear friend.
