Owen Briggs Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 17, 2025.
Owen Charles Briggs, 17, of Sussex and Butler, WI, passed away on April 1, 2025.

Owen was the beloved son of John Briggs and Morgan Raynier, and the proud big brother of Grayson Briggs and stepbrother of Nolan Raynier. He shared a meaningful bond with his stepfather, Steve Raynier, who was an important part of his life for 12 of his 17 years. He had a large blended family and had unique relationships with all of his cherished family members.

He was the treasured grandson of Deborah and Jerry Briggs, and Charles Nyman and Anne Rogalski, as well as the adored great-grandson of Jean Stone and the late Virginia Nyman. Owen was deeply loved by his aunts and uncles-Angie and Joe Sadler, Jeralee Briggs and John Beven, Garrett and Jackie Nyman, and Greg and Michelle Raynier-and held a special place in the hearts of his cousins: Camryn Lasota; Graham, Hudson, and Finn Nyman; and Rachel, Rebecca, Michael, and Matthew Raynier.

Owen was a gentle giant-standing 6'3", weighing 230 pounds, and crowned with three extra inches of wild, curly hair. He was easy to spot in a crowd, and even easier to love. He had a kind, open-hearted nature and a quiet ability to connect with anyone-especially young children, the elderly, and those who often go overlooked. Owen never met a stranger, and his quiet wisdom reminded everyone around him to lead with compassion and resist judgment.

He loved food-all food. He would happily clear his plate, ask for seconds, and only then confess that he hadn't even liked it. His honesty and humor were ever-present, just like his appetite.

Owen adored animals and shared a special bond with his dogs Nelli and Foxy, and his cats Flea and Eddie. They were a constant comfort and source of unconditional love.

He was also a romantic through and through. Owen loved girls and chased them with a sweet, earnest charm that made him unforgettable. He was a florist's dream, always ready to buy flowers for those he admired, spending more than he should-but always with a smile.

Owen's passing came after a long and often invisible battle with depression. Though he was full of love, laughter, and light for others, he carried a quiet weight that many never saw. His story is a heartbreaking reminder that even the kindest, brightest souls can be hurting beneath the surface. In honor of Owen, may we all strive to be a little more gentle with one another-to check in, to listen deeply, and to lead with kindness. Sometimes, that small act of compassion can mean everything.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Owen's name to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) or a local mental health organization of your choice. If you or someone you know is struggling, please know that help is always available. You are not alone. For immediate support, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

I am so sorry to Owen's family and friends. I was there at the scene and called 911. I'm the caretaker for my uncle and he lives across the street from the scene. I stood there in shock and prayed for the driver. I did not find out until Wednesday it was your sweet Owen. Please know how much I care. Please know he was not alone as I offered prayers. My entire family sends love and condolences. Peace to all of you. Monica

Words can't describe how empty we feel with you gone. You had such big energy, and now there's silence there in that void. You were a good friend to my son, Michael. And we always enjoyed having you over. How I wish you'd stopped by instead. I would've listened for hours if you needed that. I would've done anything to help you. Handsome young man, forever 17, forever remembered.
