Bill and Family,

I was Penny's friend and former co-worker when the children were young. Penny was the nicest person I met. The world will not be the same without her. I will miss her letters.

"I give you this one thought to keep~
I am with you still, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not think of me as gone~
I am with you still, in each new dawn."

Berkeley, I was so shocked and grieved just now to read on-line of Penny’s untimely death. I extend my deepest sympathy to you. I have fond memories of both Penny and you -- these at a time when Charlottesville was a lot smaller, people there knew almost everyone else, and life seemed much simpler than it is now. I still can see Penny riding in Elliewood’s ring near St Anne’s . There was one day I saw her taking a set of jumps bareback, with only a halter on the horse. She was a splendid rider, and in such harmony with the animal she was riding. And a beautiful woman too. I was very fond of Penny, you, and your mother. You are very much in my thoughts at this difficult time.

Bill & Family, we have been in Florida and just returned last night. We were so sorry to hear the news about Penny. As you know, John has known her for many years through riding, etc. She will be missed greatly. You are in our thoughts at this difficult time.

Billy, Page and family I am so sorry for your loss. I remember the years at Southern Comfort Farm when my husband "Hardtimes" worked for Penny. Billy and Page would spend the night often at our house and play with Willie our son. Hardtimes passed away 3 years ago after 8 years in a nursing home. Be comforted to know our loved ones now know only peace and joy in heaven. My prayers are with you.
