May 2, 2010

May 2, 2010.
For the family of Palmer, I just heard the sad news from Clay who keeps our class informed of eachothers doings. I can honestly say Palmer was my first BEST FRIEND. I clearly remember his slight build and straight black hair. We were inseparable in third grade trading basesball cards when we shouldnt have in school and having them taken away from us by the teachers only to be luckily returned at the end of the day. Being so young, when he left NY, we were never able to stay in touch but there will always be fond memories of my best friend at a time when baseball cards seemed to be the only thing that mattered in life. My thoughts are with you after this tragic loss.

Dear Anne and Blake: I knew Palmer through Innsbrook After Hours. He was the reason Coke became involved with our event. Palmer was always so positive and helpful. I always enjoyed chatting with him. I remember him mentioning that he was getting ready to pick up his son for a sports activity, and some times I even called him at an event.

I am soooooo sorry. My thoughts and prayers are with you both.

Anne, you may not remember me - we only met at the ALC a time or two, I was in Sandy's group of Dads and sons for the annual fishing weekend that he hosted. And I worked with Sandy at Coke for years. I am so sorry for your loss. I only knew Palmer thru Sandy and the ALC fishing trips, but I agree with several of the other posts, Palmer was a good person, and will be sorely missed. Please accept my sincere condolences. Jack Horn, Greensboro, Ga.

Anne,

Palmer was an incredible person. His joy was infectious; his heart was enormous. The times I shared with him at family gatherings were filled with great fun and countless laughs. I have so many wonderful memories of Palmer demonstrating his tremendous love for you, Blake, and the entire family. He seemed to truly appreciate the little, yet most important things in life.

Something I have always remembered about Palmer took place over Thanksgiving maybe about 10 years ago. As a side note, I’ve always been the child who tries to start family traditions, many of which do not stick. I am consistently searching for activities that will bring the family together. Anyhow, this particular Thanksgiving was one of the first that I spent with Palmer. So when he suggested we all play a family game of soccer, I knew that I liked him. In fact, I became incredibly excited about the prospect of having a yearly soccer tradition at Kendall Grove! As you’re well aware, the tradition did not stick. But that day we all played soccer as a family will remain with me for the rest of my life. I owe Palmer a “thank you” for that wonderful memory and truly appreciate his shared passion for family togetherness.

May God’s peace be over you at this time. You are in my thoughts and prayers every day. I love you and Blake very much and I am so, very deeply sorry.

Anne and Blake,

I am so deeply sorry for what has happened. Palmer sure was a wonderful person and I know that we all (myself included) feel very blessed to have shared a part of our lives with him. My most recent memory of him is when he was cooking in the kitchen when we all came to Helen and Tayloe's over Christmas. He and Benjamin were chatting it up and I know that my brother was really glad to have Palmer to spend time with at King Copsico. Palmer was so happy preparing the (delicious!) food for everyone and it really was special to see how caring and thoughtful he was during that time of family gathering. My prayers are with both of you all the way out here in Jackson, WY. Again, I cannot begin to express how terribly sorry I am but I hope that you both realize how many people love and care for you in this time of hurt and always in life. Love you both very much.

Anne,

There aren't enough words to describe the impact that Palmer had on many of us. Palmer was a great man, with a big heart and integrity. For many of us at Coca-Cola Enterprises, he was the one person that kept us all together. I can't even imagine the void that both you and Blake have in your hearts at this time. I pray that you will find comfort in knowing that in the midst of it all, God will give you strength in this time and is with you always.

To the entire Palmer family,
My heart weeps for you as you share this tragic and immeasurable grief.
I pray for each of you that your memories will be forever and your broken hearts to heal.

A couple of years ago, I sat next to Palmer Douglas at a Veterans Day event in Atlanta. We chatted, laughed and then after hearing an extraordinary speaker - we both shed a tear or two. Palmer caught his tears before they slid from his cheek - but he was not embarrassed to let others know that he was touched by the words we were all hearing. The memory of that night remains and is now rekindled as I am reminded of just how short life really is - and how important it is that we all share tears together - and more importantly that our lives be filled with laughter.

May God be with each of you always.

To the Douglas family.
I was blessed to have known Palmer, had the opportunity to work, with and consider him a true friend over the years. I will always remember how open and accomodating Palmer was when I visited the Richmond area and we worked and attended meetings and events together. Although we have not spoken recently, when we did it was if time had stood still and we continued our friendship. I want to pass on my and my families heart filled condolences and prayers to the family today and into the future. I will hold fond memories in my heart as I am sure you will also. May God keep you at Peace in your time of mourning and loss... Tom/Connie Eisert and Family.
