Dr. Harvey Nitschke, 59, of West Fargo, ND, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Harvey Lee Nitschke was born August 1, 1955, at Gackle, ND the son of Leonard and Viola (Koenig) Nitschke. He was raised on a farm near Jud, ND, graduating from Jud High School in 1973. He attended Jamestown College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1977. Harvey then taught high school science for a year at Montpelier, ND. Harvey and Patricia Spence were married May 27, 1978 in Jamestown, ND. He attended Northwestern College of Chiropractic in Bloomington, MN from 1978 to 1981, graduating as a Doctor of Chiropractic. The couple moved to West Fargo where Harvey opened Nitschke Chiropractic where he practiced until the time of his death. Harvey was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in West Fargo. He was appointed by the governor and served for ten years on the North Dakota Board of Chiropractic Examiners and has been on the examining board of Northwestern College of Chiropractic for many years. Harvey was also invited on numerous occasions in Part IV National Board testing for Chiropractic licensure. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping and bonfires with family and friends. Harvey also enjoyed gardening and caring for his homestead. He was a fan of classic cars, and restoring his 1973 Chevy Nova. Harvey is survived by his wife: Patty; sons: Jason of Fargo and Brandon (Jennifer) of West Fargo; daughter: Kristen Nitschke of Fargo; mother: Viola Nitschke of West Fargo; brother: Milo (Martha) of San Antonio, TX; mother and father-in-law: Betty and Bill Spence in California. He was preceded in death by his father: Leonard. Celebration of Harvey's life and his continuing journey: Saturday, May 30th, 2015 from 2 to 4pm at his homestead: 5048 Sheyenne St., West Fargo with a 2:30 pm Service of Remembrance. Memorial donations will be made to Red River Valley Hospice.
