Pamela Gamwell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 6, 2024.
Pamela Marilyn Gamwell, 60, of Houston, Texas, passed away on March 29, 2024. She was born on July 30, 1963, in Wiesbaden, Germany. As a military child, she spent her younger years moving throughout the United States and Germany.

Pamela is survived by her loving husband, Dan Gamwell, her children, Dan Landon Gamwell (Sophie), Ilissa Peacock (Chase), Alanah Reuter (Kraig), and grandchildren Parker Gamwell, Gentry Gamwell, Isla Peacock, Emmi Peacock, and Owen Peacock. She is also survived by her mother, Maggie Abney (Wayne), her father, Darold Schroeder, her sister, Debbie MacKenzie (Craig), nieces Morganne Martin and Rachel MacKenzie, nephew Connor Mackenzie, and twin sister, Peggy Schroeder Macheers (Steven). She also leaves behind a very large extended family.

She is preceded in death by her grandaughter, Lilly Grace Peacock.

Pam was a graduate of Fort Walton Beach High School, Class of 1981, and obtained a bachelor's degree in education from the University of West Florida in 1986. After college she moved to El Paso, Texas where she was an elementary school teacher. There, she met her husband, Dan, at church. They married in 1988 and moved to Guatemala shortly thereafter to do mission work. While there, she welcomed her first daughter, Ilissa. After moving back to El Paso, she gave birth to her second daughter, Alanah. In 1997 they moved to Spring, Texas. Passionate about her children's education, she homeschooled them while they were young. She later started a business using her artistic gifts doing faux painting, stenciling, and Venetian plaster. In 2016, she and a group of girlfriends, the LOLs (ladies of the Light), founded a non-profit ministry called Finishing Touch. Through Finishing Touch they have blessed over 300 struggling families with fully decorated and equipped homes as they seek to restore their lives and self-worth, all while giving the glory to God. Pam and Dan have been dedicated members of Northwest Bible Church for 10 years. Pam led an active and adventurous life. She has always loved the beach and water activities, calling it her happy place. She loved playing with her grandkids, thinking of creative activities, dressing up, making special treats, or just being silly with them. She also spent many years doing CrossFit, walking or jogging, never sitting still for very long. She loved playing cards and family game night. Raising her children and watching them grow into amazing adults and parents was one of her greatest joys. She recognized her gift was the giving of her time to others. She was always the first to offer a helping hand, no matter what the project. She was an amazing wife, mother, Omi, OhOh, sister, daughter, and friend to many. Most of all she loved the Lord. She started every morning with devotion to Christ, reading her Bible at her breakfast table. Her life's purpose was to lead a life that honored Christ and to be a light for others.

A memorial service to celebrate Pamela's life will be held at Faithbridge Church in Spring, Texas, on April 10th at 10:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Frontline Evangelism or Finishing Touch Ministry in Pamela's memory.

May her soul rest in peace in the presence of her Lord.

Pam and I met and spent hours in the lobby of American Academy of Dance where our children danced and later as a group of moms gathering regularly to pray for the staff and students at Klein Collins HS. As much energy and charisma that she had, I most remember her warm and gentle spirit.

Pam and I met when we were sophomores in high school at Fort Walton Beach High. We became close friends as we were borh "military brats" and our mothers German. She was such a fun and exciting friend and we had many sleepovers. My love, condolences and prayers go out to all that loved her...RIP sweet daughter of Christ...

This is going to sound like an odd memory but I think if Pamela every time I prepare broccoli. I had always cut off and thrown away the stems of broccoli and our families were having dinner one night and I watched Pam trim the stems, chop them up and cook them along with the crowns. When I told her I threw them away she said "Oh, never throw them away! Use the whole thing!" That was Pam, she used everything and was passionate about being healthy and a good steward. So...I think if her every time I prepare or eat broccoli!

"She is clothed with strength and dignity..." (Prov 31:25a)  This is what impressed upon me about Pam when we were briefly in the same NWBC Women's Bible Study back in 2021. I couldn't figure out how she had so much peace about Dan's dangerous mission work. It wasn't that she avoided the details or burdened others.  She was a pillar of faith strength so her man could do what he was called. I learned something about the strength of her God & her important wife role even from our brief email/text exchange in May 2021.

I never met Pam but worked and love her sister Debbie. I know from what I have read and followed she was a beautiful woman that lived for our Lord. She is well in heaven now. My thoughts are with all her family.
