Pamela Wimberly Obituary

Published by Contra Costa Times on Feb. 23, 2014.
Pamela Wimberly Aug. 5, 1951 ~ Feb. 10, 2014 Resident of Richmond Pamela peacefully passed away in her home after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who became known to her friends and neighbors as "Nana Pam." Pamela was born in Shreveport, Louisiana. Her family relocated to California in 1968, finally settling in Los Angeles. Pamela graduated from John C. Fremont High School in Los Angeles. She attended Laney Junior College in Oakland before starting her professional career at the University of California Press in Berkeley which spanned a period of 42 years rising from the rank of Office Clerk to Director of Administrative Services. Pamela had a generous heart and a loving spirit that lived to assist others within her neighborhood of Richmore Village Metropolitan Square, City of Richmond Community Services, and the University of California Press. She served on the board of the Richmore Village Metropolitan Square Neighborhood Council, Richmond Neighborhood Coordinating Council, Richmore Village Metropolitan Square Crime Watch, National Night Out, Richmore Village Annual Block Party, and the University of California Press Employee Development Funds. She coordinated the University California Press Annual Hurt Book Sale along with her annual office supply drive for disadvantaged schools. Pamela touched many lives with her generosity, positive outlook on life, concern for others' well being and embracing and enjoying every day to the fullest. Happiness radiated around her to everyone, and she always showed a positive attitude toward everything. Surely Heaven will be enhanced through her grace. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. Pamela is survived by her husband of 45 years, Ronnie Wimberly, Sr., her daughter Shannon Starzyk, son Ronnie Wimberly, Jr., grandson Vincent Starzyk, grandson Jacob Starzyk, granddaughter Jessica Starzyk, siblings Ken and Tyrone Ball, mother Emma Jean Dorton, stepfather Tommy Dorton, nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and many beloved friends. Her family, extended family, and her black Labrador Jackson were her pride and joy. Pamela's final bedside request was a memorial service in the spring. A celebration of life honoring Pamela has been planned for May 3, 2014. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation made in her honor to the American Cancer Society. The Wimberly family would like to acknowledge and thank everybody for their love and support, especially during Pamela's final days at home. Wilson & Kratzer 510-232-4383

Oh my goodnes. I am just seeing this obituary doing a google search looking for my dear dear friend. Pamela and I go way back ...our children grew up together and while she worked for UC Press I worked in the financial aid office before retiring. My sincerest condolences go out to the family...the children and grandchildren. I love you all and please get in touch with me. Daisy Forte'-Moore.

Pam & I shared many endearing moments on the telephone during the last year -- reminiscing, laughing, praying, encouraging, and sometimes just being silly. Even when she was not feeling well, she never failed to inquire as to wellbeing of others. As a final salute, she chose my birthday to depart to safer shores. Miss you, girl!

Mrs. Wimberly was one of my clients at her work place; She was one of the best and kindest manager I had the pleasure of working with, she was never demanding and appreciated the smallest service provided. I am sad that she is gone and want to offer my heartfelt condolences to her family and the many friends I know she had.
