He leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Melanie Tyson; son, Gregory Tyson, Jr.; daughter, Jada Tyson; mother, Evalena J. Tyson; brother, Louis Tyson; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, church family, and friends.
Pastor Gregory A. Tyson, Sr. will lie in state at First Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 4370 ACL Blvd., Friday, February 27, 2015 starting at 4:00 p.m. until hour of visitation.
Visitation will be held 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 27, 2015 at First Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 4370 ACL Blvd.
Pastor Gregory A. Tyson, Sr. will lie in state at Jonesville Baptist Church, 5201 Montgomery Street., Saturday, February 28, 2015 starting at 9:00 a.m. until hour of service.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Jonesville Baptist Church, 5201 Montgomery Street.
Interment: Laurel Grove South.

It was special for me because we were the same age and represented two young men on fire for GOD. I have the upmost respect for the work he did in the community. We will see you again. To Melanie,I can only imagine some people can say but I know what you going through because I have worn the same shoes in the year of 2004.Only 34 and my children were 10 and 7.My heart goes out to you and truly you have some bad and some good days but as a woman of God I don't have to tell you that God keeps you and your children.I will continue to pray for you and most that your children will adjust.Mine struggle for years and still have their days at the age of 21 and 18 but God keeps us strong.Pastor Tyson was a special person in my life,he was so down to earth that he made me and my family feel that we could be ourselves and can bring the word.One of my heart breaks was having to leave and come back to Va.truly missed my church always felt that is where we belong.When I came back to the baptism of my grandchild it was good to see you all,not know it was going to be my last conversation.When I got the the word I was in church and tears just flowed down my face.He will truly be missed.Thanks for being a part of our lives.Take care.

How do you say goodbye to a friend of nearly thirty (30) years. You cry, you question why? Then you smile as you remember all of the fun memories that you shared. Greg and I went fishing together, took trips to Atlanta together and even rode motorcycles together. I can remember Greg cutting my hair in his mom's garage on several occasions in 1986. As we grew older and got married to our beautiful wives, (Melanie & Lisa) our families would share meals together and visit each other's homes. Those were fun memories that will never be forgotten. As I sit here with tears running down my face, I thank God for such a wonderful person to be a part of my life. My heart is extremely heavy right now, however I see his smiling face and I know he is in a better place. Rest in Peace my friend! Melanie, Jada, and Little Greg, we love you!

Just wanted you to know you are in my prayers and coach tyson will always be in my heart with his constant concern for his players as they evolved as boys ll men.I remember the Atlanta (falcons) trip with the team .I didn't want to take my blanket on the bus coach took it from my gmom and told me I would need it later,and I did. Just recently during bball season he stood at the door to watch as we left the gym .He look at me,then my dad and then my gmom and proceeded to tell me dont ever let him see me without a jacket and hoodie while practicing and playing bball and that I will appreciate what he said as I got older. Melanie knowing you and Missy all these years I have looked at you as a strong sweet spiritual woman that I look up to and admire. God has put alot on your shoulders to deal with but with your quilities and the strong support system that you have you will see brighter days. Pastor Greg in his own way set things up were you would be prepared for this. He was a man that was truly greater than this life he saw beyond the here and now. I love you and i'm here ANYTIME as always. Praying for You, Jada, lil Gregory and the Family daily God Bless.
