Johnnie Mae Bennett

Johnnie Mae Bennett, born January 13, 1917 in Malone, Florida. She was a longtime employee of the State of Florida, House of representative, Office of the Sergeant at Arms until her retirement in 1996. She was married to Judge Thomas Clark until his death, from this union two children were born, E. V. Clark and Willie James Clark, both preceding her in death. She later married Tim Bennett, Sr. and from this union two children were born, Leonard H. Bennett (deceased) and James R. Bennett. From this union she gained a stepson, Tim J. Bennett (deceased) and stepdaughter, Carrie Robinson.

She was a dedicated and faithful member of Anderson Chapel A.M.E. Church where she served on the Stewardess Board and Women's Missionary Society for over 50 years until her health began to fail. Mrs. Bennett departed this life on August 24, 2014, leaving to cherish her memory one son, James R. Bennett, Sr. and a stedaughter Carrie Robinson, both of Tallahassee; five daughters-in-law, Jackie Bennett and Emma R. Bennett, both of Tallahassee, FL, Vivian Bennett of Detroit, MI, Catherine Clark and Hattie Mae Clark, both of West Palm Beach, FL and a host of grandchildren, great-granchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a special caregiver, Mrs. Dianne Sawyer Farmer.

Funeral service will be Saturday August 30, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at Anderson Chapel A.M.E. Church, 1307 Harlem St. with burial at Southside Cemetery. Wake service will be TODAY August 29, 2014 from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Strong & Jones Chapel.
