Patricia Chaires Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 14, 2025.
Suitland - Patricia Veronica Chaires, 74, passed away of natural causes on June 30, 2025, in Suitland, MD . Born on July 16, 1950, "Trish" was a cherished member of her community, known for her compassion, infectious laugh and a sharp wit that endeared her to many.

Patricia graduated from Florence Township Memorial High School (NJ) where, as a prolific writer, she was co-editor of the yearbook, member of the business leader, art and drama clubs. Given her humorous spirit she was voted "best actress" by her peers. She pursued higher education at Howard University in Washington, DC, where she earned her bachelor's degree. She served many years as a program coordinator at Howard University Hospital's department of internal medicine and as an administrator for Children's National Hospital.

Beyond her professional life Patricia's activities reflected her deep care for all living things. She was an avid cat lover, adopting several. She was also an amateur botanist, using her knowledge and skills at home and sharing them with friends and neighborss.

Patricia is survived by her brother, Malcolm R. Chaires Jr of Laurel, Maryland and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Malcolm R. Chaires Sr, and mother, Gwendolyn Gomillion Chaires.

"Aunt Pat" was my parents´ neighbor who became part of my extended family. She was as kind and gentle with my children, as she was sharp-tongued and hilarious with my husband and I. I´m sorry I´m just learning of her departure now. She was such a character and had rolled through so many things like the human force of nature she was, that I thought she´d live forever. After moving away, I already missed her; I´m devastated now to know I´ll miss her forever. I love you, Aunt Pat.

Ms. Pat and I had been neighbors for the past 8 years in Suitland. It was a pleasure knowing and assisting her. I really miss her, but she suffers no more. Much love.

Trisha has been a part of the Campbell Family literally from the day she was born. I recall Trisha recounting stories of babysitting for me - and how bad I was (which was no doubt true). My most cherished memories are of my time at American University when Trisha was at Howard. She was my unofficial big sister as I was adjusting to college life away from home in NJ. We remained close through the years, sharing a few holidays together in Maryland and our love of cats - though I could never keep up with her! More recently, I did not see her very often, but every phone call or e-mail was met with her hearty voice and a few jokes. I loved Trisha and miss her dearly. Rest well Trisha. No more pain. You are home

I am sending my hugs and prayers to Patricia family..I will surely miss you Pat. I look over at your house every morning to see if you opened your door because rain, sunshine, winter, spring and fall she would faithfully open that front door..That way I knew you were ok..now I look over there and the door is no longer open. I miss that.God Bless your soul and Bless and comfort your brother and family. Love your neighbor Karen.
