In memory of
Susan Horton
January 12, 2010
Cindy, Priscilla and Candy,
I'm so saddened to hear of the death of your mom, Pat. She was a dear friend to us all the time we were in St. Ann and we made so many wonderful memories there....from the first day we moved into her basement until our last days at K.C.A. she was always a loyal supporter of the Horton family! She was also the best preschool teacher's aide.....she became a "grandma" to each and every child in the classes we had together. Some friendships time just can't come between....that's how I felt about Pat Cox! May God give all of you peace in your hearts as you grieve the loss of your mother. She was one very special lady!
Love and prayers,
Nelson & Susan Horton

Janet Minser called me and told me about your mother.
I'm truly sorry for your loss! It has been a very, very long time since we have seen each other and a long time since I last saw your mom. I think I last saw your mom at my mother's funeral several years ago. My how time flies and we drift away from friends and relatives and it seems with some issues we drift farther and faster away from the ones we love and care about. From what I remember of your mother it seemed as if she always had a smile on her face and a great laugh. I'm sure with reading the other messages and hearing the things she did she has found favor in God's eyes. I have been trying to find you girls the last couple days to offer my condolences by phone. I'm in Lakeland, Florida if you would like to try and find me and talk. I try to keep in contact with Janet Minser in FT. Wayne, and my cousin Michele in Warren, MI. and they have my phone number. I really hope things are going well for you and your families and may God be with you and shower you with love and Joy in these times of sorrow.
I would love to hop in my truck and drive up there to see you, but I have been very busy at work and this cold winter weather is a big problem driving that far.
Blessing's from your cousin,
Jeff,

Dear Candy, Priscilla, Cindy, and Your Families:
As my wife's kid sister, little Patsie was never annoying; rather she was always friendly to me and her joy was contagious. I still smile when we sing "Bringing in the Sheaves" at church, remembering how she thought the word was "cheese". One of my earliest memories of Patsie was how thrilled she was when she received a new fur coat from her oldest sister, Fern. I think she was about 7 years old then.
I remember a time when I caused HER to laugh. It was before I was married and I'd been invited to the Beamans for dinner. The food was very good & I ate heartily - evidently I ate too much, as I broke the chair I was sitting in! I wasn't physically hurt at all and her and the family's amusement at my predicament eased my embarrassment.
After she married, Betty & I were so glad to have them living next door to us and we shared many happy meals together. We hated to see them move so far away but we so looked forward to the times when we would be together again. I'll never forget the wonderful Christmas she coordinated for all of us at their lovely old mansion in Bluffton. The looks in our children's eyes when Santa Claus arrived was priceless.
She expressed her creativity in the many homemade greeting cards and notes she sent us over the years. Always with a heart for children, her letters were frequently about her work with kids at VBS and her ideas for crafts. Sometimes she chastised me for not coming to visit, teasing me that I must be "too old and creeky to make the long trip" - and this was postmarked back in 1976! She'd frequently write that instead of my working "like a beaver and getting skinney-er and skinney-er", I should "live a little" and "stop to smell the roses". In one of our favorite photos she sent, she's smiling beside her beloved collie, Lassie. She would frequently end her correspondences with "stay bright-eyed and bushy-tailed - xo, Pat & Crew".
Although she wrote "Easy St." as the return address on these letters, I I know much of her life was not so easy. She missed her Indiana family and hated the extreme heat and humidity of St. Louis summers; she pronounced Missouri as "misery". Her favorite get-away was the Great Sand Bay in the upper penninsula of Michigan. But when enduring the rough times I recall her frequent choice to be joyous and her caring and consoling of others during dark times with the knowledge that "this too shall pass". I remember her religious faith and how she lifted her spirits by playing the piano, which I enjoyed hearing. I thank her for the many fun experiences she gave me, my children, and even my grandchildren. We shall greatly miss these happy visits, but will treasure the fond memories forever.
Love, Uncle Glenn Crowl

As I stop to think of my Aunt Pat I remember her wonderful creativity. As a kid I always loved making crafts with her and thought she was absolutely amazing. Her smile was contagious. Many will miss her, but this is a time of celebration. She has graduated on to a better place. May the hope and peace of tomorrow be with you.

Dear Cindy, Priscilla, and Candy:
I'm so shocked and deeply saddened - just can't believe your dear mom is no longer with us. I will never forget how much fun she was when I was young and growing up and the wonderful times I spent with you all. Know that I'll treasure these good memories forever. I still have the doll clothes she made for me, the peach roses she made for my wedding, and many letters and cards. I have used and will continue to use her craft ideas from GS and working with children with my grandchildren and Sunday School students. A part of her will always live on in my heart. Much love to all of you, Diann

Priscilla, Candy, and Cindy:
I was sad to learn today of your mother's passing. How time goes by. Carol Stuckey keeps me updated on people from the good old St. Ann group. One of my favorite memories of your mom was when we made house purses at Vacation Bible School. I loved that purse. Our prayers are with you.
