Patricia Joycelyn Hobbs died suddenly but peacefully in her Boulder Creek home on Sept. 27th 2007.
Those who knew her, would say she was a woman before her time. She was a force to be reconned with.
Patricia, born in Richmond, Cal. on Feb. 28th, 1925 was the only child of Emil Maher and Anice Coleloug. Her parents owned the 10th Street pharmacy in San Jose, CA. and opened the 1st pharmacy in Saratoga, CA. Patricia started her 1947's new Years off by marrying Lucian Ashely Hobbs.
Patricia received her bachelors degree from Mills College in Oakland, CA.
Patricia went on to work for Hope Rehabilitation Services for 22 years, retiring in 1979. She had 35 clients when she started, when she retired it was the largest rehabilitation Agency for the developmentally disabled in the Western US.
Patricia also lobbied for mental health and in 1967 succeeded in getting Santa Clara County to set up an advisory committee on mental health.
Pat, as her friends knew her, lived with Lucian in the Santa Cruz mountains for some 50 years. They resided Summit Road, then they built their dream on in Boulder Creek. Pat was an animal lover, she raised Morgan horses and dogs and avid bird watcher. She won medals for her German Shepherds and took a top award for her Morgan Horse, Dinah.
Pat and Lucian had no children. She is survived by her cousin, Barbara Byzewski residing in San Diego. She also leaves behind her 2 horses, dog named Gus and Barney the cat.
At her request, a party will be held at Hollins House in Scotts Valley on Nov. 10th from 5pm to 8pm. Please RSVP the Hobbs residence.

Pat hired me as one of the first employees at the Adult Development Center ( we were still at the church on Winchester Ave.) She was the heart and soul of our program and I learned first hand her personal commitment to the DD community. Hope became the driving force in the Rehabilitation community and my time at Hope was the most rewarding time of my professional life-when it came to advocacy for the Developmental Disabled she was surely a force to be reckoned with.

HOPE Services
October 15, 2007
Mrs. Hobbs worked as the face and the voice of HOPE for 22 years. She was instrumental in groundbreaking legislation, advocated for the DD population in all aspects of their lives, and grew the HOPE organization from 35 clients to the biggest organization of its kind in the Western US.
If not for her dedication, HOPE Services as we know it would not exist.
