Those of us who worked with Patricia in the English Department at the University of Maine consider it a privilege to have known her. She was a dedicated teacher, a passionate scholar, and a lovely, dignified presence in our lives. Patricia's courage and patience through this last illness were remarkable; despite the rigors of treatment, she always kept her hopeful spirit and beautiful smile. With heartfelt condolences to the family and friends, Naomi Jacobs, Chair, Department of English

Websters defines the word 'Lady' as "a woman who is refined, polite, and well-spoken" My definition is Ms. Pat. I have met very few people who truly captivate me in a way beyond the physical first impression. Ms. Pat captured me on a deeper level, a spiritual level. Her soft, kind voice, her genuine, easy smile, she radiated light, love and positivity. A strong contrast to my, loud, outspoken, sarcastic family somehow Ms. Pat fit very comfortably and in no time became a part of us.

Ms. Pat was a dear friend to my mother, a gentle companion to my grandmother and always eager to listen to the many ramblings of any one of the kids. She loved my children and willing provided a soft, snuggly lap for my little girl who looked up to Ms. Pat. I so hope Isabella turns into a beautiful, strong and poised woman like her.

Ms. Pat will be sadly missed and while our hearts will ache for our Earthly loss, Ms. Pat will continue to be a beacon for me, a light that leads me to be the very best, woman, mother, and friend that I can be. I will continue to talk to my children about how having a beautiful spirit and a genuine soul can leave a lasting impression on everyone you meet. Ms. Pat, truly has done just that.

Much love, The Cottle family
