Patricia "Patti" Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 17, 2017.
Patricia "Patti" Edyth Smith passed away on April 14th, 2017, at her home in Corbett, Oregon. She was born on October 29th, 1946, in Portland, Oregon, to her parents: Albert and Beatrice (Faught) Graff. She graduated from Corbett High School in 1964. She attended Mt. Hood Community College for some general courses.
On July 26th, 1980, Patti married her husband, Leroy Smith. They were married until her passing.
Patti worked in a variety of positions over the years. She worked as head of payroll for Woodland Park Hospital and for Baker County as a Child Support Specialist. She also worked in a real estate for a while, and much of her time was spent working on the farm.
Patti was very involved in her community. She was a member of the Grange and 4-H. Patti served four terms as a State Representative. She was truly a voice for the people, and she was proud of her service to the community. She served as the Assistant Speaker of the House for part of her term. She retired in 2008.
Patti had a spirit of adventure. When she was a young girl, she took the train to the Chicago World Fair, so she could show the enormous corn stalk that she grew. Patti loved flowers (especially lilacs), camping, fishing, hunting, and making ceramics. She was a farm girl, and enjoyed working on the farm, and being around the animals. She also enjoyed traveling, especially trips in the RV. She enjoyed short trips up the Gorge and to Multnomah Falls.
Patti was a historian, and her family has deep roots in the Corbett Community. In 1876, her great grandfather homesteaded in Corbett. Patti also enjoyed collecting antiques.
Patti was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Clifford Graff. She is survived by her husband, Leroy Smith; her son Chad Marmolejo and his wife, Amber, and their children Iris and Paige; her daughter, Shannon Marmolejo; her stepchildren, Melanie Smith, Jeffrey Smith, and Valerie Davis; six step grandchildren; and her sisters, Sandy Cartisser, Juanita Wilton, and Anita Schultz. She will be missed.
Patti will be laid to rest at Mt. View Corbett Cemetery in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cure Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Please visit their website, www.psp.org to make a gift.
