When I was paroled from prison in 2010, after serving over 37 years, Pat Ritchings was one of the warmest and friendliest faces that welcomed me home at Osborne. Weeks later I started my first job at Osborne and Pat´s smile and bouncy energy greeted me almost everyday, she made my transition and onboarding a breeze. I will never forget her face, sense of humor and open personality. It is with great sadness that I share these heart felt memories and condolences to her family, loved ones, colleagues, friends and countless lives she touched and molded. May she rest in Peace.

I had the privilege of working side-by-side with Pat for 23 years at The Osborne Association and what a wonderful experience that was. Pat was a smart, strategic partner who brought an analytical approach to our work at Osborne ensuring that our work was grounded in data and evidence. But what inspired me most was her ability to bring humanity to all that she did - not only by putting the human dignity of the people we served first but bringing compassion and a heart to our staff as well.

Pat demonstrated bringing our whole selves to Osborne - sharing with us delightful stories about her family life with Doug, Henry, Grace, and Audrey, who she clearly adored; sharing with us her passion and commitment to public service as a member of the Bloomfield City Council; and demonstrating tremendous grace, dignity, and courage as she waged a long, noble battle against cancer.

I am deeply saddened to hear of her passing and extend my very deepest sympathy to the Cannon and Ritchings family as well as her beloved family at the Osborne Association.

My deepest condolences to Pat's family. In our work conversations, I knew that the one way I could always make Pat light up was to ask her about her kids. She was so proud of all three. I know she took pride in her work, too - much deserved, as she was instrumental into building Osborne from the time she joined - as its third employee! - to where it is now, three decades and 400+ employees later. She was key to making Osborne the powerful force for good that it is. She will be so missed.

My memory of Pat was as a new hire and working at the Brooklyn office ICAN program 8th floor, I would see and notice PAT at her desk on her computer and in passing, I would greet PAT and she would look up to return me a greeting. Little did I know that Pat was one of the big wheels at Osborne and she never came across like she was not approachable. This was in 2014. As time went on, Pat and I was assigned to work together during the Osborne CORE Values development and this along with Pat's welcoming spirits to everyone was my memory of her. Pat was one of my favorite people at Osborne, and she will be missed. Your coworker,

I think I get credit for referring Pat to Osborne when she was ready to leave DOC, as Pat's then boss, Judy Keefer, gets credit for referring me to the Women's Prison Association when I was ready to leave the Mayor's Office. For the next 30+ years, Pat was an incredibly generous and supportive colleague who was always available to share her considerable wisdom and expertise with me and many others. She lived with such gentleness and grace, and will be deeply missed.
With thanks for her life, the John Jay College Institute for Justice and Opportunity
