Tulare - Patsy Voshall

March 1, 1933 - December 5, 2023

It's with a heavy heart we share that Patsy Voshall passed away on December 5, at the age of 90. She was blessed with a long, full life and, per her request, lived out her final days in her home of 58 years.

Patsy was the only child of Floyd and Dorothy Cave, born in Madera on March 1, 1933. At the age of six her family moved to Tulare and she attended the Tulare city schools. Her parents both owned local businesses in Tulare and had an active social life, which Patsy truly enjoyed. Her high school days at Tulare Union held many special memories. She participated in drama, school government and the cheerleading squad. During her senior year she was thrilled to be selected as the lead in the senior play. Upon graduation from TUHS she attended San Jose State where she majored in education and was an active member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. She remained friends with many of those sorority sisters through most of her life.

Patsy graduated from San Jose State in 1955 and began teaching grammar school, first in San Jose and then in Tulare. She was a kindergarten - 2nd grade teacher in Tulare for over 20 years, with most of her time spent at Garden School. In 1956 she married her college sweetheart, Max Voshall, after meeting on a blind date, and the couple enjoyed 60 years of marriage. Patsy immersed herself in the company of family and friends and was passionate about preserving friendships. The couple had a fun filled social life in Tulare, and also enjoyed lifelong friendships with many of Patsy's sorority sisters and Max's San Jose athletic companions. Patsy just loved the ladies in her two bridge clubs and in her birthday clubs as well as the friends she cultivated in her many service organizations. Her family hardly missed a summer vacation at Donner Lake. This was always an amazing time spent with family and college friends, a favorite retreat for over fifty years. Her home at the coast was also a fun destination that she enjoyed often.

Within a few years of getting married Patsy and Max had two children, Mark and Suzanne. They loved being parents and enjoyed coaching and participating in their kids' activities. Max was an event starter for the Sharks swim meets and the whole family attended most of Mark's high school basketball games. Patsy would often drive down to Los Angeles when Suzanne was at UCLA to participate in her sorority's Mother's Club and to attend most of the UCLA football games. Their home had an open-door policy to neighborhood children and friends.

She learned at an early age to involve herself in service organizations. In 8th grade she joined and became an officer in the Job's Daughters organization and in her junior year she became the Honored Queen. This was her first real responsibility and proved to be a very good leaning experience for her. As an adult she was an active member in Tulare County Panhellenic for over 50 years, she was also a member of Las Madrinas Guild, and the Tulare County Symphony League.

Patsy is preceded in death by her husband, Max Voshall, her father and mother, Floyd and Dorothy Cave and her in-laws, Blanche and Wesley Voshall. She is survived by her son Mark Voshall and wife Laura, her daughter Suzanne Schaub and husband Brad, and six grandchildren: Max Voshall, Sophia Cave, John Luke Voshall (wife Alexis), Alexandra Voshall, Carter Schaub and Colin Schaub. The family is especially grateful for the services of Patsy's loving caregivers who allowed her to live out her final days at home and made her feel like a princess.

A "Celebration of Life" will he held in March, with the time and location to be publicized at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tulare Historical Museum, 444 W. Tulare Ave., Tulare CA 93274 (www.TulareHistoricalMuseum.org); or the Las Madrinas Guild, 24481 Road 140, Tulare CA 93274 (FBO - Valley Children's Hospital). Please indicate, "In memory of Patsy Voshall".

Mrs. Voshall was my 1957 1st grade teacher. She was my favorite teacher. Oh, how I loved her. She was beautiful, kind and loving.

My first year of teaching I had the privilege of teaching with her in her classroom. Awesome teacher and thoughtful person. Hugs to the family.
