Patrick Doyle Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 15 to Jan. 16, 2023.
Patrick Terence Doyle of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, beloved husband, proud father, and grandfather passed away suddenly on January 9, 2023 at the age of 67. Born in Davenport, Iowa, on January 3, 1956, Pat was the youngest son of Jim and Lois (Greenwood) Doyle. He attended Assumption High School and the University of Notre Dame, graduating in 1978 with a degree in Accounting and Business Administration.

While at Pat's first job as a Certified Public Accountant at Deloitte and Touche in Davenport, he met his loving wife, Marla Panno Doyle. They married on October 24, 1981, and shared 41 wonderful years together.

Pat was a highly respected and successful businessman. After four years at Deloitte, his career led him to Baker Hughes for ten years. He joined DIRECTV in 1992 where he worked as Director of Taxes, Controller, Corporate Vice President & Treasurer, Executive Vice President of Finance, and retired in August 2015 as Chief Financial Officer. He served on the Board of Directors at Sprint after retirement.

Pat was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a proud father to Ryan (Stephanie), and Brendan, and "Pa" to Lillian, Madelyn, and Jack Doyle. Pat meant everything to his family, and his family meant everything to him. Ryan and Brendan feel like they won the lottery having Pat as their Dad and best friend.

Many years were spent coaching and mentoring youth with Lunada Bay Little League, where Pat later served as Controller and President of their Board. Lifelong friendships for all the Doyles began with these fun baseball years. Pat was known as, and fondly called, "Coach" in the Palos Verdes community.

Beginning with Pat and Marla's first visit to Big Sky, Montana, nearly 30 years ago, the family has spent countless fun and relaxing weeks at their vacation home at Spanish Peaks. Pat found great pleasure at Big Sky - golfing, especially playing in the annual Cattle Drive golf tournament, celebrating Christmas with extended family, skiing, fly fishing in the mountain rivers, and hosting family and friends. Pat was an original member of the Spanish Peaks Golf Committee and a long time member of the Spanish Peaks Advisory Committee in which he was recently elected Co-chair.

Frequent travel, including cruises around the world, became a favorite for Pat and Marla. Sharing these adventures with friends and family were special times. Of course, Pat's love of his alma mater, Notre Dame, and Fighting Irish football was a lifelong passion, often returning to campus to watch his beloved team. Pat began golfing at a very young age, starring on the Assumption High School golf team, and improving his game during retirement becoming a 3 handicap golfer at Rolling Hills Country Club where he also served on the Board.

In addition to Pat's wife, sons, daughter-in-law and grandchildren, Pat is survived by his siblings Kathleen (Stephen) Stegmaier, Peggy (Donald) Van Slochem, and Thomas Doyle along with several nieces and nephews. Mother-in-law Ann Marie Panno and brother-in-law Mark (Tammie) Panno also survive. A funeral mass will be held on January 23, 2023, at 11:30, at St. John Fisher Church, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. A live stream and video archive of the service will be available on livestream.com/stjohnfisher. Internment will be held at the University of Notre Dame on a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat's memory may be made to the University of Notre Dame at giving.nd.edu, or by mail: University of Notre Dame, Department of Development, 1100 Grace Hall, Notre Dame, IN 46556., the Spanish Peaks Community Foundation by mail: P.O. Dear Marla and Doyle Family,

I am so sorry to hear of Pat's passing. Pat and I were good friends as we were growing up because Jim (his father) was one of my Dad's best friends. We did a lot of family picnics together. Pat and I were in the same grade in school. We also got into some trouble together. We were at the Doyles house for a picnic and to watch the first landing on the moon. My dad and Jim were just amazed by the event while Pat and I were off laughing and making trouble. Needless to say, we got an earful about the historic significance of this event. In our high school years we didn't spend as much time together as he was really smart and I quite didn't wear the gold tassel:) Our prayers are with you and your family.

Sincerely,

Mike McCabe

Pat was so down to earth and caring person, with a smile that would light up a room. I learned so much from him when he was at DIRECTV and carry what he taught me to this day. He was so very proud of his family and would share his stories with many of us. Our chats for our love of cruising still flood my memories to this day, and his stories of his travel adventures with his family were so beautifully detailed, one would think they had actually been part of their family vacations.

Pat, thank you for your guidance, mentorship and stories.

Rest easy. My sincere condolences to Pat's family.

Dearest Marla and Doyle Family,
I am overwhelmed with sadness over the sudden passing of Pat. You are all in our thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time.
There are special people in our lives that never leave us and Pat will always be mine. How fortunate I was to have him as my closes childhood friend. From the day he moved next door and drove away on my toy John Deere tractor we were inseparable. We grew up, playing golf, skiing, basketball, bowling, billiards, and ping-pong together. We caddied, mowed grass and build soapbox derbies together. My father even nicknamed us Me´nPat.
Eventually, life gets in the way and careers take us in different directions.
Along the way there have been plenty of new friends, but no special best friends. Nothing like a Pat Doyle, a friend that made me a better person.
May God bless the entire Doyle Family.
