Oh Pat you were such an important part of my life at a time when I had no hope and no focus you helped me through. It is those things that inspire and strenghten me to this day....I am sorry to have learned of your death so far after the fact but even in this you are Pat...

We are so sorry to have learned of Patrick's passing today. Pat was a good friend of my husband having met in Pembroke in the early 80's and since they have spent many times together, in more recent years when Pat would travel to Toronto and stop for a visit. Such a loss for so many!

Pat and I were close friends for 30 yrs, he was best man at my wedding, we went for many a trek together on our bikes. We fought each other in Karate class when I was sixteen, we had much mutual respect for one another and shared many stories over the years. Pat you will be missed beyone measure as one of the unique ones in lifes journey, thank you for being there for me over the years it was my honor being your friend.

Patrick was partly responsible for introducing me to my husband 17 years ago. He also dragged me, kicking and screaming, through my first ever 10 km run in Montreal, literally hitting me on my backside with a stick as we laughed through my final slow kilometre. He was an off the wall character and we will always have fond memories of him. RIP, Patrick, and thanks.

I only learned of Pat's passing the other day. Pat was a good childhood friend who I had lost touch with during high school when he moved on. I ran into him again about 10 years after high school and we sat and talked for hours. Regardless of the years that had passed we remained good close friends and I always kept tabs on him through mutual friends. I'm deeply saddened to know that I won't have the opportunity to see him again, something I was very much looking forward to. It's good to know how many others that Pat has made a positive and enduring impact on.

Patrick...I cannot believe you are gone. We have not been in touch for many years...but I will always remember you as being one of the nicest men I have ever met.

We met on a plane bound for Morocco. You looked like a businessman that had changed into some beige Sahara clothing...you appeared thin and slightly uncomfortable. You were quiet and seemed introspective.

We arrived at our camp in the desert. You were like a butterfly that had emerged into a glorious new world. You came out of your tent in running shorts and you seemed free. YOur hair blew in the wind, your legs were long and lean and you were smiling. You were strong and healthy. You laughed and you were loving life. You were one with the desert.

I loved the stories you shared with me during the week...you lived such a remarkable life.

After the race we went out shopping in Quarzazate and you lent me some money to buy a necklace. When I got back to Canada I mailed you a cheque wrapped up in a page that I had ripped out from the phone book. A private joke between us that made us howl with laughter everytime we brought it up.

You had such a wonderful sense of humor. I will always remember you on the day we were climbing up a cliff together in the Gobi desert. There was me in front, you, and Jacob at the back. WE got to the top all sweaty and hot and we all stood there and were yelling out some choice words at the top of our lungs about the dumb race and the dumb race director and the dumb climb...and then we all started laughing and life was good again.

I can't believe that I won't see you again at another race. But I know that you will be with each of your running friends in spirit wherever we are.

I am going to Libya next month...and Jacob will be there. I will run for you Patrick, and look up at the night sky and know that you are there ... watching over us.

We will remember you out there in the desert Patrick and honor your memory. Rest in Peace my Friend...Sandy McCallum

I knew Patrick through the consulting business in Ottawa. He was always a professional, maintained a good perspective, and was passionate where it mattered. Very bright. He became a friend and was a delight to know. Rest in peace, Patrick.

January 6, 2011

My fondest memory of Pat was sitting under the stars and near a roaring fire in the middle of the Sahara desert after a hard day of running in a race. We were listening to a soprano from the Paris opera specially flown in to entertain us. We chatted, laughed and were awed by our shared experience. We became good friends as a result. We always talked about that experience whenever we met up. It reflected his adventurers heart and soul and we were instantly transported back to that special night.

I am saddened he is gone and I will miss him, but will remember him when I look up at the night sky.

My condolences to his family.

If everyone signed this guest book whom Patrick has touched it would look like a best selling novel. I took pride in telling Patrick's adventure and determination of being the best that you can be in all aspects of life. I lookup to him. I just found out yesterday. I'm sure there are still many who do not know and many more hart will be broken. If I could be half the man he was. To all the Doyle Family may God hold your hands and walk you through this painful time.
