PATRICK JAMES FLEMING

CORRECTED COPY OF PREVIOUS MESSAGE:

I met Patrick Fleming through a mutual acquaintance in Cambridge, MA in the late 1980s. I visited Patrick's home on a few occasions. And Patrick was alway a gregarious and welcoming host,

I had heard of Patrick's association with Andy Warhol and the Boston-based band The Modern Lovers, whose frontman, Jonathan Richman, may have lived at Patrick's Cambridge home on Putnam Avenue at some point, as well perhaps Jerry Harrison of The Modern Lovers, later of Talking Heads and The Tom-Tom Club, when Harrison was attending Harvard University.

Patrick and I had a few late-night discussions about rock & roll. I wish I had spent some more time with Patrick when I was still a music journalist. I am certain he could have provided me some amusing and excellent anecdotes and stories about his time at Andy Warhol's Factory, as well as his days as a housefather for Boston area rock musicians. Patrick even attended a gig of my band in the early 1990s, which I considered an honor and blessing bestowed.

I am sorry I did not know of Patrick's illness and passing earlier. I would have paid him a visit in his final years. But I have been having health issues of my own, including a heart condition (the same as Patrick) and prostate cancer, in roughly the same parallel amount of time, so had become almost housebound. It appears Patrick and I also share the some health care provider of Cambridge Health Alliance.

May Patrick Fleming rest in peace and always be remembered by his surviving family and friends. Patrick was a kind man with a big heart and a good sense of humor. And he never allowed his artistic acclaim to dominate his being, always made room in his home for stray souls in need.
