GREENSBORO — Patrick Manion Goodwin, 43, passed away unexpectedly on December 25, 2011.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2011 at Westover Church, Greensboro, N.C. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Pat is survived by his two young sons, Phillip and Matthew Goodwin, his mother Twyla Goodwin, brother & sisters, Theresa & Tim Duhan, Julie Goodwin, Michael and Lorie Goodwin, nieces and nephew, Trent & Stephanie Duhan, Elizabeth & Catherine Goodwin, Aunts, Uncles, cousins, co-workers, clients and friends too many to mention. Pat is preceded in death by his father Charles Manion Goodwin.
Patrick graduated from Grimsley Senior High School in 1986 and went on to NC State University on a track scholarship. Patrick was employed by A CDM Assessment & Counseling he was a substance abuse counselor I working toward his certification. He was an avid Wolfpack fan and wore his NC State gear faithfully while tailgating at games for over 25 years. He loved Minnesota Viking Football, Pee-Wee football and all sports. His children were the foundation of his happiness. Pat was a friend to everyone. One of his greatest joys in life was helping those in need. He assisted many people on their road to recovery, and was tireless in the pursuit of helping everyone find their light. Pat was an active member of Westover Church, was involved in youth activities and served as a group leader. He was also a member of Elks Lodge #602. Pat was a powerful speaker and his story is one of inspiration. Inviting God into his life filled his heart; he said it made him a better dad, son, brother and friend.

For the Goodwin Family:
- My sincere condolences. I haven't seen Pat since leaving Greensboro in the early 1980s. That said, I was privileged to be one of his teammates on the HS/Club track & field team.
- What I remember?: A fierce competitor that became a 800 meter National Champion with the Club and later a NC HS State Runner-Up for Grimsley HS. Pat was a fearless competitor and fantastic teammate.
God Bless,
Allen Ford

I AM SO SAD TO HEAR THIS NEWS TODAY. I KNOW FROM READING THE GUEST BOOK HERE THAT YOU WERE LOVED AND ADMIRED BY EVERYONE. I WORKED WITH YOUR MOM TWYLA FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS, BUT, MOST IMPORTANT IS OUR FRIENDSHIP. I KNOW YOU COME FROM A VERY STRONG FAMILY WHO STANDS TOGETHER FIRMLY AND IT'S THE LOVE THAT BONDS THEM TOGETHER! MAY YOUR FAMILY USE THAT LOVE TO BE A STRENGTH FOR THEM IN THE COMING DAYS. I KNEW PATICK ONLY THROUGH HIS MOM, BUT, SHE SHARED ALL OF HIS WONDERFUL LIFE AS A KID AND COLLEGE YEARS WITH ALL OF HER FRIENDS AS SHE WAS ALWAYS SO PROUD OF HIM. I SINCERELY EXPRESS MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO ALL OF YOU! MY LOVE TO TWYLA, AND ALL OF HER CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN.

I worked with Patrick for several years at Rooms To Go and we always enjoyed his smile and willingness to help others - Patrick personally helped me with a difficult situation outside of work several years ago - he went out of his way to do such and was always appreciated for that effort by me - thanks again Patrick. May the Lord welcome you.
