Patrick Henry Higgins, 89, of Mahopac NY, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2023, surrounded by his beloved family.
Patrick, born in Brooklyn and raised in Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo Ireland, was the third of 12 children born to Patrick Higgins and Mary Higgins (nee Grimes).
In 1958, Patrick returned to the United States at the age of 23. After serving in the United States Army, Patrick joined the New York City Police Department at which time he met and married his wife of 59 years Bridget Angela Higgins (nee O'Connor) and then joined the New York City Fire Department. While in the Fire Department he attended John Jay College of Criminal Justice where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Fire Science. In 1982, he retired from the Fire Department as a Captain.
Patrick, who lived for and was deeply loved by his family, was the father of 6 children who were raised in Mahopac NY. His greatest pleasures were being with his children and grandchildren, watching them play various sports, rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Mayo GAA and tending to his property on his mower.
He was one of the founding members of the Westchester Putnam Gales, the Irish Football Club that in 1984 toured Ireland and later that year won the Under 18 New York State Championship.
Devoted husband of Bridget Angela Higgins of Co. Kerry Ireland. Adoring father to sons Patrick Higgins (Barbara wife), Thomas Higgins (Penka wife), Bryan Higgins (deceased), John Higgins (Jill wife), and daughters, Joanne Preston (Mark Preston husband), and Angela Higgins. Grandfather to Patrick Higgins (Kayla Nolan fiance), Jack Higgins, Bryan Higgins, Elena Higgins, and Theodore Higgins.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on June 3, 2023, at St. John's the Evangelist Catholic Church in Mahopac, N.Y. with a celebration of his life to follow.
Anyone who knew Patrick, would know how much he enjoyed spending time with friends and family, so in lieu of flowers, please take time to be with your loved ones.

To Angela Patrick Tommy John Joanne Angela.I am sorry to hear about Uncle Pat RIP.I warmly remember lots of fun summer days in Floral Park and Mahopac.Uncle Pat was great for playing with all the kids baseball,gaelic football and the pool.RIP Uncle Pat.

Childhood memories of your home come to mind. A welcoming place of smiles, barbecues, pool, tag and baseball. Though we never met (that I remember), my sisters and I heard your name and about your family often. My mother (Elizabeth "Lib" Mary [nee McGrath] Vogt) and my aunt Joanna Mary McGrath would talk of family often and chat on the phone for hours. Condolences to all. Requiescat in pace in aeternum.

Thanks to you Pat and Angela for many wonderful weekends in 1972 when I spend 20 weeks in New York. Your open house was wonderful and so so generous and the best food, great fun with Joanne and above all a deeply loving home.
