Patrick John O'Connell Obituary
Patrick received degrees in English literature from the University of Toronto and Northwestern University and pursued doctoral studies in that field at Columbia University. He taught English literature at Columbia and at Fordham Prep in New York. He worked as a typesetter in New York and Chicago and as an IT consultant at Time-Life and then at TransUnion in Chicago until he retired. He served in Navy intelligence during the Vietnam War and in the reserves.
Patrick was a fantastic classical and jazz pianist and used his beautiful bass voice to sing in choirs. His lively spirit, quick wit, humor, courtesy, warmth, and kindness endeared him to many. We who knew him will miss him dearly.
Patrick is survived by his wife of 20 years, Susan Brast O'Connell of Sacramento; his sister Ann Hill of Dowagiac, Michigan; his brother Michael O'Connell of Oakville, Canada; his sister Mary O'Connell Stary of Evanston, Illinois; his stepchildren Rachel Sloan of London, England and Daniel Sloan of Portland, Oregon; his four nieces and nephews; and his three grand-nephews and grand-niece.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023, at 10:30 A.M. at the Home of Peace Cemetery, 6200 Stockton Blvd, at El Paraiso Avenue, Sacramento, California.
You may donate to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society in Patrick's memory if you so choose.

John Weidert now has a grade school buddy to have a great time together in heaven probably thinking about how they can get in mischief up there as they did in Wilmette. Michael, my son, will remember Pat´s skills at piano when he would sit down with him when he was a little boy. My sincere condolences to you, Susie. Pat was one of the good ones and will be missed.
