I am deeply saddened to hear of Chops' passing. I am so grateful that we had a chance to briefly reconnect this past November.

No other teacher has had such a profound influence on me. I refer to him regularly in my own teaching, always prefacing my comments with, I was very fortunate to have a really hip High School Band Director.

There are so many wonderful memories from my time at Scranton Central. The Marching Band rehearsals and shows at Memorial Stadium, the late night listening sessions in his home Studio (Marko playing drums in the booth, in his jammies!), knowing how to forge his signature on passes to the band room and the band giving him a rubber stamp of it on his birthday (!!), Friday listening days, going to find him in the janitor's room downstairs, going on day trips to play at area schools with all three ensembles, receiving a Friday night call inviting me to the house for a jam session with the great Tony Studd, and so many more.

I offer my most sincere condolences to the Marcinko Family. I am honored to have had Chops in my life.

Yes, my soul finds rest in God;
My hope comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
He is my fortress, and I will not be shaken. ( Psalm 62:5)

Thankful that God brought you peacefully home. No more pain and sorrow.
Only joy unending! Peace eternal.

Forever missed,

Dear Mrs. Marcinko and family, I have been out of the country and just learned about Mr. Marcinko's (I could never call him Pat) passing. Although quite a bit late, I had to convey my deepest sympathies and, like so many, share your loss. "Chops" was an incredible influence on so many of us in high school...we talked like him, tried to 'groove' like him, and especially be cool like him. His ability to educate was unparalleled and most of us continue to realize his gift to us so many decades later. For me, he inspired me beyond any doubts to pursue music as a career. Hardly a week has gone by when I was not reminded about something he said, did, or performed. I still quote him in one of my university courses. I know my story is repeated hundreds of times in many variations with my classmates during, before, and after my wonderful years with Mr. Marcinko. Thank you for sharing him with all of us. I wish you peace in the memory of this outstanding man.

I will never forget the Sunday morning Pat asked me to sing with the choir. That to me was an honor . I had always admired the choir and wished one day to be a part of it. When Mike and I joined we had so much fun. Getting to know the members and being part of this group was amazing . We enjoyed many events and became one happy family. The trips on our ethnic pilgrimage were amazing with numerous photographic memories thanks to my husband. We experienced much enjoyment . Christmas caroling was a lot of fun. Spending time with Pat and Glenda became s friendship I will always remember and cherish. Pat was someone I appreciated getting to know and spend time with and for than honor I thank God.

Heartfelt sympathy and prayers to family and friends of Mr. Marcinko. Although I went to Central High School, I "knew" him years earlier when I was a tiny tot dancing for Mrs. Constance Reynolds. I was on stage in front of the percussionist in the orchestra. Ready to dance. Tiny kid on a big stage. . . glaring lights. . . what seemed like a massive darkened auditorium. I should have been scared to death. But right in front of me was a man beating the drum, giving me the kindest, most reassuring smile ever, which seemed to say: "Everything's great. This is fun." I believed him, and he was right. It was fun. Much later, I found out the drummer's name. Thanks, Mr. Marcinko, for reassuring a scared little kid on a big stage.

I am sorry to hear about Mr. Marcinko. I will never forget my time as the star boy for the choir as I was always the first in the door and as soon as the songs were finished Mr. Marcinko always made sure I was well fed house after house. A very important thing to a young man on those cold winter days in NEPA. He would often ask me what goodies to try to which I would respond "all of them" and he would reply with warm laughter. I will never forget his kind words, musical talent and friendship. A true pleasure and honor to have known him. You will be missed Pat.

So sorry to here of your loss Marko and family. Did not know of his most impressive history. He taught my brother Tom Adamcik the drums; he would come to our home in Jessup. He even let Tom (at age 7 or 8) play at a New Years Eve gig at the VFW in Eynon. His memory lives on in the students who were lucky enough to be taught by him. Again, sorry for your loss. May you find peace in the wonderfulness that was Patrick.

July 10, 2016

Very sorry for your loss. He was great man and mentor to many. When I think of Mr. Marcinko, three words come to mind: warmth, passion, & excellence. The most memorable memory I have is his taking me for a ride in his Bradley GT (which he built) after a music lesson in his home studio. I loved studying music under him & to this day am inspired by those moments. A great loss for the Marcinko family and the world; I will always miss him.

My profound sympathy to Glenda and Pat's family at this unexpected event. I knew Pat for more than 60 years whether it was playing next to him in the American Legion Band or singing with him at St. Cyril's. His passing will surely leave a large void in the lives of his family and the NEPA community. As a man of faith though Pat passed surly with the expectation of life everlasting.

Patrick Marcinko defined passion. There was nothing he pursued that he didn't pursue with passion... being a husband, parent, musician, teacher, composer, friend, church member, or while building his home...it was always heart and soul. Thank you to the Marcinko family for sharing him with us all. My sincere sympathy.

I graduated CHS in 73. I was quite a geek, and I didn't personally know Mr. Marcinko I always appreciated band and music at CHS. I was lucky enough to be in Chorus as a senior and in the mind boggling Oklahoma production; I'm guessing he had a part in that too! 40 plus years later we have more appreciation for the teachers and leaders who got us through!

My heart won't stop aching, my dear friend, and it won't for a long time. You completed the missing part of my life - you showed me my heritage, and where I really came from. You gave a meaning to my life that allowed it depth and vibrancy, and you shared the magic and science of your craft passion - you showed that a person can make themselves into whatever they want to be. You shared all the that you had, and never asked in return...and because of that, you got respect, devotion, dedication and love. The incredible grief today is bearable only because I was lucky to live in the time you did, in the place you did, and am eternally grateful to be the better person from it, because of your presence.
