Patrick, I read your moving letter about the pressures of school. I have been trying to wake parents up about this for years. Your letter has inspired me to begin a parent support group to talk about the increasing pressure children face in school thanks to the new educational standards which are totally unrealistic and not scientifically proven. Your message has been heard and I will do my best to bring your message to as many school administrators, teachers and legislators that I can. I have a son like you who loves his P.E. coach and just loves to hang out with family and friends. Well really he loves to play legos most of all, even though he is a teen. I'm going to keep him home from school tomorrow so he can just hang out with me and do his lessons by my side and play legos in between. You are right. Life is too short and we should really be focused on enjoying the moments rather than trying to impress people with our accomplishments. You have changed the minds of many though we wish it was not this way. You are a beautiful soul and your profound message will help to save the lives of many children and teens in the future. Thank you for having the courage to give the straight story and God Bless!
Benay

As a Christian father of three daughters and a retired educator, I cannot imagine your pain and sorrow! Your are in my thoughts and earnest prayers for comfort and possible understanding. Surely the loss of your dear Patrick is heart wrenching and will cause many soul-searching questions to arise, but I pray in the searching that God will comfort you and cause this experience to somehow be turned into a catalyst to improve the lives of our dear teenagers in this country! May God bless and keep you during this painful season. I extend my deepest and heart-felt condolences.

As a mom, my heart aches for you. As a human, I yearn for compassion and kindness from all. And as a teacher, I am reminded of the importance of our role our students lives. Our words matter. Our tone matters. Our support matters. Our care for our students should be evident. We are not here to just teach content but to also teach empathy and build community. Let us not forget this. My heart breaks for the loss of your beautiful young man. Having lost my own brother, it is difficult for those to understand the sorrow you go through as a family when you lose what is most precious and irreplaceable. Try to hold tight to one another. Although I did not know your boy personally, I felt the need to extend my deepest condolences for your loss. I'm so sorry this happened. The only comfort that I can offer, is the only one that I can allow myself, is that I hope to see him again someday in a place not made of this world where we will be together again forever.

Dear Patrick-- your passing and your letter has so deeply moved me. I am a sophomore now at SDSU, and I remember so clearly the pressure I felt in high school to get "somewhere". I grew up in Orange County too. There were many beautiful things that also brought me great joy throughout those days, as did yours with baseball and football. It breaks my heart to know how much it affected you, when there are so many more wonderful things that can bring one so much joy. You remind me so much of my younger brother who is also a sophomore, and too now faces these same things. None of us as students should feel this way. I wish I could have known you, even if we had never met or even attended the same high school at the same time. I would have loved to have more people like you when I attended high school. So much kindness can go a long way. The things you did in your life will mean so much for others that come after you, even impacting the ones before you. I know they have for me. Your eloquence, your character, and your spirit will absolutely live on. May God bless you in heaven and the places you go, and may he bless your family too and bring them comfort in their time of need
