Patsy HARRIS Obituary

Published by TBO.com on Apr. 2, 2013.
HARRIS, Patsy Anne Wallace, 75, known to her family and friends as "Pat," walked into the loving arms of Christ on Wednesday, March 20, 2013. Pat was known for her loving spirit, lending a listening ear and heartfelt support to many she encountered. Pat was born in Rome, Georgia on November 6, 1937. Her parents, Weyman and Annie Dean Youngblood Wallace, moved the family to Cave Spring, Georgia. Pat had one older brother, Harold. Pat was a cheerleader and performed in school plays while at Cave Spring High School. She often entertained her friends by "burning up the keys" on the piano. A top student, she was also a member of the Beta Club. She was a lifeguard at the Cave Spring Swimming Pool and volunteered at the Georgia School for the Deaf. She sang alto in the Cave Spring Baptist Church choir. After graduating from high school in a class of just 14 students, Pat attended Georgia Baptist School of Nursing in Atlanta. She later worked as a secretary and payroll clerk at Ledbetter-Johnson Construction Company in Rome, Georgia. She met her husband, Lowell, at Enloe's Drugstore in Rome, where he was a pharmacist. She ate lunch at the fountain there and he found time to make her a soda. Lowell told her she was "the sweetest girl I've ever met. You are going to have a hard time getting rid of me." They were married on April 25, 1958. In 1959 Pat and Lowell moved to Heidelberg, Germany when he was called to serve in the US Army as a hospital pharmacist. The two spent free weekends traveling all over Europe. After returning to the US in 1960 after the birth of their daughter, Laura, they settled in Dade City, Florida, where Lowell got a job at Kiefer's Pharmacy. Their son, Blaine, was born in 1961. Pat became active in many groups including the Dade City Garden Club, the Junior Women's Club, the Women's Club, and the First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir. She was also a charter member of the Dade City Blood Bank and a member of the Supper Club, a group of friends who have been meeting once a month for more than 40 years. Pat was an expert seamstress and she loved to read. Pat supported Lowell in his many civic endeavors and was herself honored as a Paul Harris Fellow by the Dade City Rotary Club. Pat and her husband loved young people and often hosted informal gatherings of their children's friends for music, dancing, and unofficial ping pong tournaments. In 2008, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends. Pat was preceded in death by her husband Lowell in January 2011. She is survived by her son Blaine (Shannon), Lawrenceville, GA; daughter Laura (Ray), Athens, GA; four grandchildren: Kelsey, Logan, and Adam Harris (Lawrenceville, GA), and Alec Housholder (Athens, GA). Visitation is 10a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at Hodges Family Funeral Home on 5th Street in Dade City, FL (352-567-0000). A graveside service will take place at 2 p.m. at Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery on Hwy. 301 in Dade City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be sent to either the My Legacy Endowment Fund of the First United Methodist Church in Dade City (37628 Church Ave., Dade City, FL 33525) or to the Dade City Rotary Club.
