Patty Dickie Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 5 to Apr. 9, 2008.
DICKIE _ Patty (nee Lockey) July 14, 1955 - April 2, 2008 Patty Dickie passed away on April 2, 2008 at the age of 52, after courageously fighting brain cancer for twenty months. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family. Patty was born in Calgary and attended Henry Wise Wood High School and Mount Royal College. She was a flight attendant for twenty years and worked for Pacific Western Airlines and Canadian Airlines. One of Patty's greatest passions was travelling extensively with family and friends. She was especially proud of the book club she helped found - it was her passion until the end. Those close to her will remember Patty for her incredible love of life, her keen sense of humour and the time she always made for her friends and family. She always had a positive outlook on life and shared that with everyone. She will be dearly missed by us all. Patty is survived by her loving husband Bryon; her most precious gifts, her children, Lauren and Brett; her father Don Lockey; sister Sharon Lockey; mother-in-law Audrey; brothers-in-law Ken and Rob; sisters-in-law Shawnie and Sandy; nieces and nephews, Blaire, Chris, Samantha, Mark, Erin, and Scott. Patty was predeceased by her mother Irene Lockey and father-in-law Horace Dickie. Family would like to express their sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre for their tremendous care, passion and support - they are world class. Sincere thanks also to the staff at Southwood Hospice for their care, compassion and for making Patty's final days so comfortable. If friends so desire, donations can be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre (1331 - 29 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta T2N 4N2) in support of brain tumour research. A celebration of Patty's life will be held at the Calgary Golf & Country Club at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2008 and friends are encouraged to attend. The club is located one block west from the corner of 50 Avenue S.W. and Elbow Drive. Condolences may be forwarded by visiting www.leydens.com . Arrangements entrusted to LEYDEN'S FUNERAL HOME, RECEPTION and CREMATION CENTRE. Telephone: 228-4422.

Patty was on my flight on her way to a Superbowl party in Palm Springs this Feb. She thought she might try a round of golf as well! What an amazing and lovely person she was, someone whose love for her family and her life always shone through. My prayers and condolences to all her family and friends.

Dear Bryon and Family,

How sad to discover Patti's passing. Although right now, this may not seem like a comfort, but our Loving Lord had a different plan for her. May you find comfort in the many memories you shared. And may time help to lessen your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. With love and Blessings from,
Brian and Lorna Bygrave

Bryon, Lauren & Brett,

I had the pleasure of working with your precious wife and mother many times and loved not only her sense of humor but her down to earth common sense. I always admired her heroic, quick thinking
during the incident in Calgary, when the 737 caught fire and against everything we are trained to do in the "critical phases" of flight, she stood up on a full take off roll and pounded on the cockpit door trying to inform the pilots to abort their take-off. When encountering difficult people or situations at work she would always spin the incidents into humor so they would fade away in laughter.
Patti stood up for what she believed in and was passionate about her family and friends. I hope you will find comfort in knowing that her love for you all will be never ending, even though she is not with you for now.

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

I started flying with PWA the same time as Patty, she was a graceful spirit, a beautiful soul, and what I remember about her the most was her radiant smile.
Peace be with you as you heal from the loss of your loved one

Sad news, so young and spirited. Like many we had hoped against hope that this tragedy might be avoided by God's intervention. Faith and love can be the ultimate healers. Freindship to, lasts forever. Our thoughts are with you and the kids Bryon.

To Bryon and Family,

Bryon, please accept our deepest condolences and know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. Jerelyn and I were shocked and truly saddened when we saw the notice in Saturday's Calgary Herald.
I think of you often with fond memories of C.O.P. and CODA. You were and inspiration and mentor who taught me much about Marketing and the importance of personal relationships. While we have not been in touch with each other for many years now, I would welcome the opportunity to share a few good stories at a later date.
Stay strong. We will say a prayer for you and your family and take comfort knowing that Patty is in a much better place.
Sincerely,

Diane Matthews

I have very fond memories of flying with Patty, all those years ago, at PWA and CAL. We laughed a lot-Patty made everything seem funny. She had a great sense of humour and a great smile. My sincere condolences to Patty's family and friends.
