Paul Auster

An extremely talented writer, his books were well known and by so many, Sincere condolences to the Auster family and friends, so very sorry for your loss. May God be with you all at this very difficult time.

Paul Auster, one of the greatest writers of his generation, was one of our "Authors-for-Literacy"--reading his work at our events to benefit literacy and educational projects of the United Nations Staff One Percent for Development Fund. Paul Auster was kind enough to headline two of our UN literacy benefit events--on both occasions, to packed spaces at UN Headquarters in NY. Paul wanted to help the many without access to the written word--and promote the skill of reading/writing and access to written materials via the creation of rural libraries in the developing world. All of us at the 'United Nations Staff One Percent for Development Fund' greatly thank and revere the memory of Paul Auster for his caring, compassion, kindness, and generosity in donating his time and talent.

I´ve discovered Paul Auster´s work while I was studying American lit at University. It was 30 years ago and his words have stuck with me since then. I wrote him a few letters, he personally replied to two of them. The last one dating back to Jan 15 2023 made me cry. I lost my dad 3 years ago. Now, I feel like I´ve just lost my spiritual father. Rest in peace Master Auster. You will always be in my heart.

Siri, I share your Norwegian heritage and have many relatives in Bergen as my parents were from Grimstad and Haugesund; my mother was born in a town north of Bimidji. I LOVE YOUR BOOKS AND PAUL's and since and have been so interested that you are intrigued by neuroscience and work with psychiatric patients on writing skills. I was born in Methodist Hospital and my relatives all lived in Bay Ridge, the Little Norway of its day. Reading your books during my lifetime, started with "Moon Palace". You always touched me with every book after that one. But I never had the need to thank an artist or author, or musician. Today I finished " Baumgartner" I had to thank you in a pm only to find that you gave me another Auster moment.
