Dear Barton Family,

I am so very sorry for your loss. I've had the pleasure of working with Paul since 2007. He always had a smile on his face. He would say hello anytime we met in the hallway and gave a hearty "Thank You" when you worked with him. I miss his kindness as well as his professionalism. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

My deepest condolences to the Barton family. I had the pleasure of knowing and briefly working with Paul at NFELC/EWXC Engineering Dept. A great man that lives the true example of humility, hard work and dedication. A fellow Chief who you would never know about the exemplary career he had in the US Navy- but would hear it from the people whom he served with and the troops that he took care of. I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear about his passing- and feel sorry for not paying my last respects being out on travel. To Paul's family- please know and take comfort that he is now with his Maker in heaven and are looking down to care for you and friends. May you rest in Peace, our brother. We'll see you in the Goatlocker...

Dear Barton Family, Paul was one of the most remarkable chiefs I have ever met. He was always thinking more of his men and his officers than himself. I am sorry for your loss and want you to know how much those that knew him appreciated his service to this country.

Paul, we will miss you. You were so loving, being among the very first to hold three of my babes at the hospital. You were so funny, Bubba, telling me my big-headed newborn looked like a lollipop. You were so fun to talk and debate with even on stuff we wouldn't agree upon. I can still hear you say, " Okay, let me ask you this . . ." Then you'd poke holes in my argument. You were giving. You and Karen coming up to the campground outside of Ojai to play campfire guitar for us was awesome. You were so supportive when my hubby found work at the Navy. My life and the lives of my family have been so touched by you. You are loved and missed.

Dear Barton Family,

I extend my Heart felt condolences and Prayers in your loss. May GOD help you find comfort that Paul is at Peace by his side. I grew up on 24 Anderson Road, Framingham Mass. and remember hanging out with Paul and Steve as they lived on the same side of our street just closer to Brook St. I borrowed their baseball gloves a lot. I remember Steve allowing me to use his left handed Glove later as I discovered I could throw better with my right hand. Paul, a few years back reached out to me kindly in my vain attempt to touch base with his brother Steve. He will always remain in my heart as a childhood friend. Peace and extra Love to you Steve and The Barton family.~~

While I only knew Paul a short time and only when the work dictated so, he was always so calm, patient, understanding and willing to help. He will be missed by me and all of us in the barrier world. It is with a heavy heart that I extend my condolences to you and your family. Paul, it was always a pleasure. May you rest in peace.

My brother, my first friend. No matter what the circumstance you were always there for me and had my back without looking for acknowledgement. You exemplified brotherly love in a way we all should strive to show... Unconditionally. I am blessed to know that we came full circle in life, ending up in the same place spiritually although our path were just about opposite. When we spoke about this last it brought us closer than ever. I am grateful for this and yet my heart will never heal from missing having you around. I love you Paul! Your brother forever.

November 6, 2014

I am deeply sorry for your loss. I know that your family is in shock with this reality and it will take time to adjust to life without him. What is important now are memories of the good times that should be shared between his loved ones. Paul was one of the good guys, the kind of person that gave you his full attention and allowed himself to show his honest feelings (good or bad) and as he walked away you were left feeling good. Stay close to each other and support one another with all the love you have. I recently lost my father who was the rock of our family and can never be replaced.
God Bless you and your family and know that you can turn to Him for comforting whenever you need it.
Sincerely,

Paul was a shining example to many through his service to our country, his love of family, his devotion to his mom who was a dear friend of my mom's, and his courage and grace in the face of adversity. He knew how to be strong and gentle at the same time. My heartfelt condolences to Karen, Steve, and his children and grandchildren. May wonderful memories console you all during this difficult time and may you feel his presence beside you always.

My friend Paul, I'm sorry that I lost touch. I let a great asset and resource go underutilized. You never failed to give tough, painful advice when asked, and hinted masterfully when not asked. So much adversity I experienced in such a short period of time. Sometimes we have to (at least) believe that we come up with our own ideas. Well done. Fair winds and following seas my friend. rs

Pail affected so many, from far and wide, but the best example I've seen of his love and his way of life is in his family. His wife, children and grandchildren were well loved. Watching them carry on Paul's legacy of love with each other and others is a beautiful blessing. Vaya con Dios, mi amigo. Missing you!

Knowing Paul was a great experience. He's responsible for getting me back into motorcycle riding. for which I'm still grateful. He was a joy to work with, and was always responsible and reliable. Loosing him during the RIF was a great disappointment. My thoughts are with his family during their time of grief.

Unfortunately, I didn't know Paul as a Master Chief. I knew Paul as a friend of Bill W's and he was living proof that you could serve the World's Most Powerful Navy, sober. His humility and strength were inspirational and I will remember the Saturday mornings we spent together for the rest of my life. The lives Paul touched throughout his Naval career and in the program of Alcoholics Anonymous are incalculable. With Karen by his side, they personified the love, strength, and hope. I am truly saddened by his passing but it appears God needs someone to lead meetings in Heaven. He will be deeply missed, but NEVER FORGOTTEN; a patriot and warrior to the end.

This morning, I got the sad word of Paul's passing. My heartfelt condolences for Karen and Paul's family. Truly, a loss to our Seabee community. Paul was the BEST Command Master Chief that I had known in my naval career and I was very PROUD and HONORED that he was my Command Master Chief during my command tour with NMCB18. No words can ever replace the deepest loss of this fine Seabee, but I know he's in a better place now.
