PAUL MATTHEWS BOOTH was born November 30, 1931 in Washington, D. C. He was one of nine children born to loving parents, John and Pauline Booth. He received his formal education at Phelps Vocational School in Washington, D.C. Paul accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and was a member of the historical Epiphany Catholic Church, where he served as an Altar Boy.

In 1951, Paul voluntarily joined the United States Navy, serving his country with pride and honor during the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. He also served aboard the USS Midway while based in San Diego, CA. He retired in 1971 after twenty years of exemplary service.

After retiring from the Navy, Paul began working for North Air Rework Facilty (N.A.R.F.) at North Island as an Airplane Mechanic. During all of his dedicated years of service, he never missed a day of work.

On June 24, 1979, Paul joined Bethel Baptist Church with Christian experience under the leadership of Dr. John W. Ringgold, where he served with the Usher, Trustee and Hospitality Ministries.

In 1979, Paul married the lovely Janet Johnson-Williams, whom he affectionately called "Pook" and "Sargent Major". Paul and Janet have cared for and raised numerous foster children over the past twenty-seven years. They received many awards and commendations for their outstanding service. They were also featured in a television commercial as well as in the newspaper for their service of excellence in caring for foster children with unconditional love.

During Paul's illness, he never gave up and he never complained. He remained steadfast and unmovable in the Lord; for he fought a good fight, finished his course and he kept the faith. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents and seven siblings.

On Saturday, September 20, 2014, Paul Matthews Booth slipped away peacefully after a long illness. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of thirty-five years, Janet Booth; three daughters, Paula Brown, Maria Carter (Wil) and Joy Booth; one son, Andre Murphy (Andrea); two stepsons, Leonard Williams, Jr. and Ronald Williams; one brother, Charles Booth; eight grandchildren, LaKiesha Holden, Jenifer Brown, Jonathan Brown, Andre' Murphy, II, Kirsten "Bubblegum" Carter, Anthony Murphy, Sheyla Williams and Lynnette Williams; nine great-grandchildren, Kayla Holden, Dayvon Brown, Aniya Holden, Jordin Murphy, Andre' Murphy, III, Aiden Murphy and Natalie Murphy and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends, including the Bethel Baptist Church Family who will mourn his passing, yet celebrate his life.

Paul Booth...my Pa!! God only knows the pain I feel that you had to leave this world. But I know you are now with him and so with that I have peace. I want to say "I Love You!" And i wish that I had more time to spend with you so you could have seen how much you have inspired me to be the young lady that I am. You and mom(Janet) took me in and helped me understand that to be successful in life and in a relationship I must love The Lord and myself and be willing to work hard. I just want you to know that you are a great man, husband, and father. And the heavens just gained an angel that will protect and stand by with all the love and support he can give. I will always hear you telling me to just do it, go out there and be someone, and so I did. Thank you for loving me and having faith and teaching me what you knew and just being you...a great father. I Love You Paul Booth...my Pa!!!!

Paul was a wonderful man. He had such a sense of humor that everyone around him knew when he walked into the room you would be laughing very soon. He has left a lot of fond memories with many at the Boone Office. He will be missed so very much. Much love to you Janet you both have special places in our hearts. Nancy Graham, Boone ESA

Paul Booth was a king among men. He was a true gentleman. His support of Central Region Foster Parents United was invaluable. He always was positive and up beat. He helped in any way he could. He epitomized being a helpmate and was extraordinarily supportive of the love of his life,Janet. He was committed to ensuring that the child placed in his home were given a solid moral compass to help them navigate life. He was a exceptional man, who will be dearly missed. But to be absent from the body is to be present in the Lord. Paul is now wearing his much earned heavenly crown.

Janet please do not hesitate to contact me if you need anything.
