Paul Cammarota Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 12, 2025.
Bronxville - Paul Cammarota, a distinguished musician, passed away on March 10, 2025, in Bronxville, New York, at age 94.

Born on November 20, 1930, in South Philadelphia, PA, Paul initially considered a career in medicine, but ultimately followed his passion for music, studying at the prestigious Juilliard School. He later earned a Master's degree in Music from CUNY Queen's College.

In 1953, Paul married Carmella Licciardello and started his music career. His immense talent and dedication earned him a role as second bassoonist with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in 1973 -which he held for over thirty years. Travelling globally while performing under world-renowned conductors at the Met was a highlight of his career.

Paul was a devoted husband and father. He and Carmella raised their children-Cynthia Vega, Paul Cammarota (wife, Bea), and Susan Myers-in Mount Vernon, New York. He was predeceased by his daughter Camelia, who passed away in infancy. Paul's beloved grandchildren-Sienna, Maia, Benjamin, Daniel, and honorary granddaughter Brittney Hoffman-brought him great joy.

Very sad to learn of Paul's passing today. He was a very good friend to me over the years, and helped me to get substitute work with the Met Opera Orchestra for a period of 3 years back in the 1980s. His musicianship and support greatly inspired me. Thanks for all the help over the years, Paul. You are definitely missed.
