Paul GODFREY Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Oct. 22, 2010.

GODFREY, Paul T. Paul was born and raised in London, England and passed away at Burnaby Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife Lois, step-daughters Yvonne and Carie (Dan) and his 2 grand-daughters Annika and Kristen. Paul early on developed a lifelong love for the sea. He built his first boat while still a teen. Upon graduating from Technical school as a Marine Engineer, Paul enlisted in the Royal Navy as a Submariner in 1942. He served on several submarines in the North Sea and South Pacific where he attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After the war Paul immigrated to Canada and settled in Vancouver, B.C. Here he built his second boat, the Finis. He joined the Gulf Yacht Club and spent much of his free time sailing the West Coast waters. Paul worked on several projects in the province over the years and eventually was hired by Westcoast Transmission in Vancouver, retiring in 1987. Paul was a brilliant and compassionate individual. He was known for his creativity, expertise with engines, love of story telling and kindness to all creatures great and small. He is dearly missed. A memorial service will be held at St. Margaret of Scotland Anglican Church, 1030 Sperling Street, Burnaby, B.C. Date and time to be announced. Flowers are gratefully declined, but if friends desire, donations to the Burnaby Association Community Inclusion or the Burnaby S.P.C.A. would be appreciated. Condolences maybe offered to the family at www.bellburnaby.com .

Lois
Sorry to hear of Paul's passing. My sympathy and thoughts go out to you and family. I sat close to Paul for many years at 1133, waiting for the earthquake to test the building design and trying to decide if it was safer to be in the washroom or out on the floor. Stories of spigots and bungs, and Kato generators come to mind. In any case I certainly have fond memories of Paul and yourself. Take care.

My sympathie's to the family. Paul's memory will live on in the stories he told me about engines, submarines, and his boat to this young engineer. I hope he is again talking with my father, Ed, in heaven and enjoying good times with family and our Lord.

Sail on, Paul.
