Paul Hayworth Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 10, 2024.
Paul Dellano Hayworth passed away on November 19, 2024, peacefully and according to his wishes. He was also known as Pete or PD depending on how you knew him. He leaves behind a loving wife, Kay; son, John-Paul; siblings, Martha, Mary, Terry, Ellen, Dennis, Doug, Tim and Jim; nearly three dozen nieces and nephews; and innumerable friends across the country. He will be missed by each of them in their own way just as he valued each of them for who they are and what they meant to him.

Pete served in Vietnam as a Navy Seabee and was extremely proud to be a veteran. His family wishes to express their appreciation for those who served with Pete and all those who dedicate service in the military or are part of a military family. After serving with the Seabees, Pete spent his career at the US Department of Agriculture where he helped farmers across the country. He also was responsible for ensuring that school children had access to healthy and nutritious food through the National School Lunch Program and provided similar quality foodstuffs to those incarcerated in the Federal Prison System.

Pete was met in heaven by his grandparents, Alpha & Mina, Arval & Belle; parents, Ivan & Jeanette; his sister Carol Ann and other relatives, friends and scores of others whose lives he touched along the way. We know that now that his pain is gone, he is enjoying a good long catch-up conversation with these loved ones and anyone else who happens to be near.

The family will be planning a celebration of life in the future, likely filled with good food, good friends and great stories, just like Pete would have wanted.

In lieu of flowers or casseroles, please consider making a donation or other acts of service to those in need, in honor of Pete. We will likely never know how many people he helped, or befriended along his life's path, but if you were one of them, we encourage you to embrace Pete's spirit of generosity and love as a most fitting remembrance of him.
