Paul Hollister Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 27, 2017.
Paul David Hollister, 64, of Hollisterville, died Saturday in the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit, Dunmore, after a long and challenging seven year fight against lymphoma and leukemia. His wife is Rhodine Davis.

Born Sept. 25, 1953, Paul was the son of the late Warren and Winifred Masters Hollister and attended Lake Consolidated Schools. He drove car carrier for M&G Transportation for many years with his dad. Then he worked for Carlisle Trucking, worked as an Independent Flag Car Driver and for the Maiocco Excavating Co.

Paul was proud to be an Elder at the Light of Christ Church and found great comfort and religious strength from Sr. Pastor Pat Lee. Paul and his wife would like to express their sincere appreciation to Pastor Pat Lee for the countless visits to their home, hospitals and finally at hospice during Paul's final hour.

Paul was an avid camper who enjoyed many camping adventures with his family and friends throughout the years. He loved country music and being outdoors riding his quad or driving his backhoe. Paul looked forward to the Monday morning "coffee klatch" at McDonald's with his good friends.

Paul and his family extend special thanks and deep gratitude to Dr. Barry Minora and Dr. James Brady for the excellent care they provided during Paul's fight. They also extend special thanks to all the dedicated nurses and staff at the Henry Cancer Center for always making a difficult situation so much easier by providing exceptional care and heartfelt compassion. Also, special thanks to the nurses and staff at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for taking exceptional care of Paul and his family.

Paul and his wife were extremely fortunate to have been blessed with the love and support of family and friends that endured throughout their relentless fight.

In addition to his wife Rhodine, he is also survived by a daughter, Denise Kautz and husband, Donald, Hollisteville; a stepson, John Davis and wife, Sarah, Lake Ariel; three grandchildren, Cree Kautz and wife, LeeAnn; Krystle and David Kautz; a great-granddaughter, Rylie Kautz; a brother, Alvin Hollister and wife, Nancy; three especially close great-nieces, Haley Marcinkevich, Mariah and Madyson Wheatley; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Paul was also preceded in death by his brothers, Lynn and Neal.

I met Paul over 50 years ago, in grade school. He was one of the sweetest and kindest persons I have ever known. I didn't have the privilege of seeing him many times over the years. But when someone that special has touched your life, the memories last forever. My deepest condolences to his family.

What a fighter and an inspiration. When I would ask him about how he was feeling the reply was always "good - I feel good". I wish I had known him longer but I knew him long enough to call him my friend. He will be missed.
