Paul Howe Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 1 to Dec. 3, 2018.
Paul B. "Bud" Howe Jr.
PEORIA - Paul B."Bud" Howe Jr., long time resident and Peoria, IL, lumber dealer, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2018, in Aurora, IL.
His wife of 51 years, Laurie "Honey" Holtgreve Howe, preceded him in death in 2000.
Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Howe Parker (Barry) of Medfield, MA, Julie Langeland (Lowell) of Aurora and Patsy King (John) of Greybull, WY. He was beloved by his 5 grandchildren, Jennifer (Jerry) Greiner, Tom (Dawn) Langeland, Laura Howe Parker, Colter (Brittnee) King and Garrett (Lindsey) King; and adored by his 7 great-grandchildren, Carly and Casey Greiner, Tyler ("Bud"), Samantha and Amanda Langeland and Logan and Beckham Atrip.
Mr. Howe was Vice-President and Director of Carver Lumber Company in Peoria from 1954-1985. He was President and Chairman of the National Lumber and Building Materials Dealers Association from 1983-1984. He served as a board member of the Credit Bureau of Peoria and served on numerous other civic and industry groups. He also wrote extensively for industry trade magazines and authored a chapter on valuing lumber yards for a popular business valuation book. Mr. Howe was known for his knowledge of the industry, his integrity and his keen advice. From coast to coast, he was considered an expert in valuing and selling lumber yards.
Not only was he proud of his family, he was happiest when spending time with them. In addition to his family, Bud was an anchor and an encourager for several nephews and nieces. His neighbors and friends referred to him as a "true gentleman" with a positive nature, always giving the thumbs-up.
Mr. Howe was a 1945 graduate of Peoria High School and received his B.A. from Bradley University in 1949, where he and his wife later endowed the Bud and Laurie Howe Scholarship Fund. He was a veteran of World War II and an elder at First Presbyterian Church.
The family will gather for a private memorial service.
Contributions in his honor can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of your choice.

Howe Family - I will miss Bud...a lot. He helped me learn a lot about business and about how to do the right thing. He always did the right thing. He was a steady hand, even when the seas were rough. Thank you for letting me be a part of his amazing life!

Our family was saddened to hear of Bud's passing. I was privileged to work for Bud at Carver Lumber Co. from 1979-1985. His door was always open and he was willing to selflessly share his knowledge and life experiences in an effort to be helpful. He was a dedicated executive, humble, and a very patient listener. His comments and advice were always imparted in a kind and respectful manner, causing people to be genuinely unafraid to ask for it. The amount of respect and affection that he garnered from employees, suppliers, the community at large, and especially Carver's many loyal customers, was probably the deepest reflection of a lifetime of work dedicated to serving others. I would like to take this one last opportunity to thank Bud for all he did for me during our time working together. For my part he will always be remembered as someone I was proud to know...a Gentle Giant... truly a Class Act.

Our Sincerest Sympathies to the family.
