Paul C Kasper

Paul C. Kasper, 88, of Marcy, NY moved on to his eternal rest on June 11, 2023 after a courageous and dignified thirteen year battle with dementia. He was cared for at Brookdale Memory Care in Clinton, NY and then more recently at Sitrin nursing home in Utica, NY and the family wishes to thank both facilities for their exemplary and caring staff.

Paul was born in Pittsburgh, PA on November 23, 1934, the son of Joseph and Genevieve (Englemeier) Kasper. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army where he spent time in South Korea. After his military service was completed he pursued his interest in electronics. He received further education at Capital Radio Engineering Institute in Maryland. Subsequently he was hired by Page Communications Engineers, Inc. and began working under contract at Rome Air Development Center (Rome Labs) of Griffiss AFB. One of the projects he worked on at Griffiss resulted in the world's first intercontinental satellite message being sent and received to national acclaim on August 12, 1960.

Paul was a kind and gentle man who lived a quiet and peaceful life. He loved walking and hiking outside in nature along with gardening and his hobby of photography. His lifetime of photographic work lives on in the hundreds of colorful slides he created of people, birds, animals, and nature. After his retirement in 1995 he volunteered serving with Meals on Wheels to bring meals to the infirmed. Paul was humble and never had a bad word to say about anyone nor did anyone ever speak badly of him. The role Paul valued most in life was being a father and grandfather and he was the very best his family could have ever wished for. We are forever grateful to him and for him and he will be deeply missed until we see him again in eternity.

Paul was predeceased by his mother and father along with his five sisters, Barbara, Jean Marie, Patsy, Diane, and Kathleen. He is survived by his ex-wife and lifelong friend, Julie (Shepard) Kasper, of Sherrill, NY, their two children, daughter Debra (Dave) Sampson of Marcy, NY, son Eric Kasper of Whitesboro, NY, grandchildren, Rachel (Steven) Smith of Verona, NY, and Jonathan Wilmot of Marcy, NY, and two great-grandchildren Levi Smith and Clara Smith.

There will be no calling hours and a private memorial service will be held for family.
