"Your sons - our boys. Your sons - our boys" - as a parent of 2 sons who were at Waverley College this was another one of Brother Leary's famous lines from his end of year speeches. He was a great character with a wonderful sense of humour. The boys loved him. Rest in Peace Brother.

I remember Brother Leary's end of year speeches to his students at St Patrick's College in Sutherland when I was there in Year 10 (1989) and his famous line "... and if you're going to go mad, do so in your own backyard!" He was a legend of a man and a top bloke who will be sorely missed.

As an ex student from St Patricks College Sutherland 1989 yr12. I clearly remember him turning red at the sight of the boys coming to school with shaved hair cuts and his famous quote was "if it's good enough for Ray Martin to have a decent hair cut it's good enough for you, I don't want to see it again".... He was a great mentor for the kids. My family will miss you alot.

We will never forget the sight of Brother Paul standing and welcoming the boys as they entered Waverley College every morning, hail, rain or shine. A wonderful man who will be sadly missed. RIP Brother.

Brother Leary was also principle of MRCHS (Macleay Regional Catholic High School) Kempsey, now called Saint Pauls. The memory of his face turning red as he almost hyperventilated with excitement or frustration, and that little tuft of hair falling over his forehead is something we all share. As one of those lucky enough to be a student under his leadership I would like to express my condolences. The school system needs more principles like him.
