Paul LEMA Obituary

Published by Edmonton Journal on Sep. 22, 2016.

LEMA, Paul Francis
August 14, 2004 – September 18, 2016
It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Paul Francis. Although Paul was so young, he lived a full and rich life, experiencing the joy, peace and love that many strive their whole lives for. Paul spread that love to all he encountered and left an indelible mark on all of our hearts.
He will be deeply missed by his loving parents, Melanie and Brian, sisters Elizabeth and Stephanie, and brother Dominic, grandparents Peter, Garry and Lynda, numerous uncles, aunties, cousins and best friends. Melanie and Brian wish to express their deep gratitude for the years of tender and expert care given to Paul by his many doctors, nurses and staff at the Stollery Children's Hospital, as well as at the Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary. The family also gives special thanks to the many teachers and developmental assistants Paul had over the years and to all who contributed to both his education and to enriching his life at home. Lastly, a heartfelt thank you to all who received Paul's love and gave love in return. He taught us all that the world needs people like him.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m., Friday, September 23 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church followed by a reception in the Parish Hall, 210 Haddow Close, NW. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Marian Centre Edmonton or the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation. In remembrance of Paul we invite you to share a 'group hug' with those you love, which was one of Paul's favourite things to do.

Dear Melanie, Brian, Elizabeth, Stephanie and Dominic. I wanted you to know how profoundly Paul and your family touched my heart, and influenced my beliefs and attitudes about the power of love. I will always remember the day you came to your first DS clinic with Paul - what a priviledge for our team to work with him, love him, and learn from him. We have thought of him often - missed his bright smile and true determination, and will treasure our time with him. Please accept our condolences, and know the Lema family will always be in our thoughts and prayers.

Paul was one of the best teachers I have ever had. Paul's pure innocence, joy for the small things in life and his honest love of Jesus was something for which we should all strive. He loved people, and in turn, you couldn't help but love him. I have so many fond memories, but will always rember four-cheese bagels with 2 honey dipped Tim bits and will dance to Uptown Funk. God Bless you all.

Thank you Lema family for sharing your beautiful son/brother with all of us. He was truly a gift to be around. I would not be the individual I am today had it not been for Paul's light in my life. The world is a better place because of him. His laughter, joy and smiles will live on forever. My you find comfort in the fact that this angel lives on in the countless hearts he touched.
