Paul Madsen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 9 to Feb. 16, 2023.
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Paul Christian Madsen, 54, of Aldie, VA. Paul was born on May 28, 1968, and passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023.

Paul was preceded in death by his loving parents Harry and Joan (Farnell) Madsen.

Paul will be missed and is survived by his two beautiful daughters, Sophia and Charlotte Madsen and his wife Stacey (Lobue) Madsen, brother John Madsen of Marshall, VA., sister Karen (Madsen) Whitman and her husband Paul of Saluda, VA., his niece, Kelli Whitman, and nephew, Kai Madsen. Paul will also be dearly missed by his beloved dog, Beau.

Aviation was Paul's passion; he started flying gliders at 14, earned his pilot's license at 16, and more recently earned his helicopter license. Paul graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 1989 with a BS in Aeronautical Science. Following college, Paul held positions as a Flight Instructor, Flight Engineer, First Officer, Captain and Check Airman. During his career, he flew the ATR42/72, M-2, B-727, A-320, and the B-777 with UPS, Continental Express and United Airlines. Most recently Paul was a 777 First Officer in Washington DC flying throughout the United States, South America, Europe and Asia.

Paul was also an inventor and entrepreneur and held two patents. He manufactured and sold products through his company Venture TEC, LLC. Paul combined his radio control aircraft hobby with photography and created Sky Photos which provided aerial photography to clients. Shortly thereafter, he designed and manufactured a portable surveillance system (Mobile Video Surveillance) which was sold to numerous police and fire departments across the US, government agencies, the military, and international entities.

Growing up in Vienna, VA, Paul made countless life-long friendships and added many along the way. His friends and colleagues describe Paul as "always a gentleman", "a great friend", "the consummate professional", and "a damn good airman to fly with".

A Celebration of Life to honor Paul's memory will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic www.angelflightmidatlantic.org or to the International Pilot Peer Assist Coalition (IPPAC) www.pilotpeerassist.com.

I worked with Paul's father Captain Harry Madsen at Eastern Airlines. His father was the director of flight standards (chief pilot) and a Captain on the B727 at DCA. My prayers and love to all the family.

Sorry for the late posting. Recently just found out about Paul's passing.
Paul was my F/O at UAL on the A-320. He was the ultimate professional pilot and a pleasure to fly with. He constantly entertained me with all of his invention ideas, pink Cadillacs, and stories related to flying his RC airplanes. In fact, I possess to this day a device he invented, made, and gave to me to be used in the field while hunting.
One fond memory of a flight we did together: While coming into DCA, he had one of his friends on the bank of the Potomac River and Paul rocked the wings as we passed. Also, my wife and I knew his Dad, Capt. Madsen at EAL.
We both express our condolences and may God Bless the entire family.

V/R,
Byron Fisher, DCA Capt UAL ret.

He and I flew a few trips together on the A320 at UAL. I always felt good with Paul along, he was a professional and a great airman.

Mostly I´ll remember Paul for how nice he was.

I remember meeting Paul when we worked Continental Express at Newark Airport years ago. Such a great guy. When I shared on facebook that my 20 year old son was interested in becoming a pilot, Paul was one of the first to reach out and and offer his help. I'm thankful to have known you Paul!! Rest in Peace~

I knew Paul as the nice smart younger brother of John :)

I remember I was on a flight, one of those smaller planes, and the flight attendant brought me a note from the pilot that read "welcome aboard Cupcake", it was an inside joke that only his older brother will get!

Every memory I have of Paul is filled with kindness and compassion. This is such sad news.

Paul was my first officer and colleague at Calex years ago. He was a stellar pilot, but more importantly, a long time good friend of the highest caliber. He was highly respected among his peers at CAL-UAL and we are all deeply saddened to have heard of his passing. Paul will always be remembered for who he is, the kindest, most caring soul.

I had flown with Paul several times, and he is a great pilot. He was also a perfect gentleman and I´m proud to say he was my friend. My heart hurts for Paul and his family. I pray that you rest in peace.
