Paul Scott Millar of Camarillo died peacefully on Feb. 10, 2008, following a short but foredoomed battle with cancer. He was 52.
Paul was born May 2, 1955, in Arcata, Calif., the third son of the late Gordon S. and Katharine Pope Millar. The family later moved to Ventura County, where Paul grew up, attending Mound School and Santa Paula High School.
Boy and man, Paul had many interests, special among them his 30-foot sloop "Agape" and the years he lived aboard. Those times were never better than when joined by his crew, beautiful wife, Lynda and beloved daughters, DeLayni and Carissa. His wish to sail the world was never fulfilled, but now he sails forever in the winds of the vast celestial oceans.
Paul came from a long line of Venturans. His great-great-grandfather, James Willoughby, was an early merchant and cattle rancher, and Katherine Pope, his great-grandmother, was a citrus rancher in Santa Paula until her death in 1973.
Paul was predeceased, in addition, by great-grandparents, Hal V. Sr., and Rena Hammons; uncle and aunt Hal V. Jr., and Martha Hammons; grandmother, Peggy Hammons Hardy; and aunt, Patsy Hammons Gribbin.
He is survived by his wife Lynda; daughters, DeLayni and Carissa; parents, Robert and Katharine Anderson, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; brothers, Jim Millar of Bakersfield and Hal (wife Lili) Millar of Vallejo; sister, Heather (husband Pete) Young of New York City; stepmother, Eugenia McGowan Millar, of San Francisco; his wife's parents, Dr. Fred and Evelyn Delay, of Ventura; sister-in-law, Deana (husband Tom) Koch, of Camarillo; aunts Patsy (husband Bruce) Lansaw and Dale Everson; nieces Rachel Millar and Erin Young; cousins Toni Ostrom, Kit (husband John) Dobbe, and Bruce (wife Mae) Gribbin; and his pound puppy Rusty.
Sail on, dear Paul, in your ship of dreams. You left us too soon, and we, your loved ones, will miss you forever.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Conejo Mountain Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Chapel of the Hills (larger building); phone 805-482-1959.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul's memory to Loving Heart Hospital Foundation, 5400 Atlantis Court, Moorpark, CA 93021.

Dear DeLayni,
From our earthly view, losing your dad seems so unfair. But when you think that God takes those who He needs, then what better candidate than your dad? You are such a wonderful young lady who anyone would be proud to know. Carry on your dad's legacy, letting his character shine through you.

Dear Lynda, DeLayni and Carissa and Family:
Although I only knew Paul through my friend Lynda, I knew him to be a man of integrity and devotion to his family and friends. Through Lynda I learned of his passion for the sea and his heartfelt love for his family.
To see a man such as this leave us so soon is truly unexplainable. I only know that Lynda's amazing strength will carry her through this sadness and that she will be a tremendous source of strength and support to all who love her.
