Paul MINAKER Obituary

Published by Ottawa Citizen on Sep. 11, 2014.
MINAKER, Paul Jefferey
February 5, 1959 - September 6, 2014
Peacefully at the cottage, Paul passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday September 6, 2014. Beloved husband of Marilyn (nee Roffey), proud father of Ben (Gillian), Elle and Jon, devoted son of Joan Minaker, loving brother to Terry, Cindy, Kathryn (Chris) and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by brother Tony, father Loris, niece Erika and beloved aunt Thera Falconer. 1959 - 2014 There was a lot of living in the dash between birth and death: son, brother, uncle, husband, father, friend, professional hockey player, project manager, Jaguar owner and vineyard creator. Thank you to friends, family and medical care teams in Ottawa and Prince Edward County, especially Jennifer Hall, William Splinter and Heather Campbell for support and care throughout this cancer journey. Paul's indomitable fighting spirit allowed us more time than we could have hoped for. Mr. Minaker is resting at the Whattam Funeral Home, 33 Main Street, Picton, Ontario. Funeral Service in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, King St., Picton on Friday September 12 at 11 a.m., followed by a Celebration of his Life at the Royal Canadian Legion Picton BR. 78. The Reverend Lynne Donovan officiating. Family interment to take place in Rose Cemetery, Waupoos. If desired, memorial donations to Hospice Prince Edward or the Ottawa Hospital Foundation would be appreciated (cheques only, please). The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday afternoon 2 to 4 and evening 6 to 8 p.m. www.whattamfuneralhome.com

Marilyn, Ben, Elle and Jon.
Last night I attended my first Blue Rodeo concert and all I could think about was Paul. I was joking with my friends on how I had never seen them play before as I was always babysitting for the Minaker's when they came into town. I have such wonderful memories of Paul. He was always so kind and such a wonderful person. It was such a pleasure living beside such a wonderful family. My thoughts and Prayers are with you always

Dear Marilyn,

I was so heartbroken to hear this week of your loss and Paul`s passing away. My thoughts are with you and your children. I recall you and Paul so graciously attending my husband`s funeral - notwithstanding the battle you were both fighting at the time. My encounters with Paul were not numerous over the years - but he was always so absolutely charming and interested in everything. You have a beautiful family and accomplished so much together - I hope that gives you some peace in the days ahead. If there is an afterlife, I know that my Paul is with your Paul right now - he is not alone.

Marilyn, Ben, Elle and Jon, our heartfelt condolences on the loss of your husband and father. Stan, Tim and I were deeply saddened to hear of Paul's passing. It is so tragic to lose someone as young and vital as Paul, he had such a love for life and adventure.
Your family and ours were some of the first ‘settlers' on Ellisson Way 27 years ago; we have many fond memories of our kids going to school and playing together, Christmas gatherings at the homes of Elsie and Harry, Teri and Fred; the many adventures of Smokey exploring the neighbourhood with Blackstone watching, sidewalk chats.
Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family and if there is anything we can do to help, please do not hesitate to call on us.

My deepest sympathy goes out to you Marilyn, your children and all of yours and Paul's extended family for the lose of this special man. Although I never knew Paul well, every time my path crossed with both you and Paul I always knew what a special, genuine, sincere person he was and what a wonderful couple you both are. My thoughts and prayers have been with you all over these past couple of years and I will continue to keep all of you in my prayers, especially over the next couple of days as you celebrate the happy memories of his wonderful life. Many heartfelt wishes, Mary Jane Manley.
