Paul Parks Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 3, 2016.
June 3, 1951 - April 28, 2016
The Rev. Dr. Paul Parks died peacefully in San Antonio, TX on April 28 at the age of 64. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joyce Parks; sons Aaron (Meredith) and Brian (Cindy); grandchildren Sawyer, Chase, Alayna, and Emily; brothers and sisters Robert Parks II (Suzanne), Robin Franz, Scott Parks (Kathy), and Kristin Owen (Todd). He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Robert and Margaret Parks. Paul was born on June 3, 1951 in Louisiana, MO. He completed degrees in Biology and Sociology at Central Methodist College before completing a Master of Divinity and Doctorate in Pastoral Care at Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis, MO. Paul was a Fellow of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, a Licensed Professional Counselor, and held the Ecclesiastical Endorsement for Pastoral Counseling from the United Methodist Church. Paul married Joyce, his high school sweetheart, in 1972. They enjoyed many adventures together, including pilgrimages to Rocky Mountain National Park and transatlantic trips to France and Germany. Paul was a rock to his family and he treasured his grandchildren. His ministry led him to posts in Missouri, Illinois, and Texas, culminating with his work as the Pastor of Care and Wellness at University United Methodist Church in San Antonio. A funeral is scheduled at 2 p.m. on May 5 at University United Methodist Church. Rev. Laurinda Kwiatkowski will officiate the service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Paul's life. Memorial gifts may be made in Paul's name to the San Antonio Food Bank and the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.

Joyce, Mary and I are sad to learn belatedly of Paul's passing. I recall fondly running with Paul early mornings in Clayton 40 years ago. I was thinking of him today and recalling the Easter Sunday service in 1979 when the University of Arkansas team, playing for the NCAA basketball championship at the Checkerdome, attended his Easter morning service. It was memorable for me and I suspect also for Paul. He was a terrific guy. I'm sorry we did not keep in touch.
Our condolences,

Craig and Mary Formby

Joyce we are saddened by your loss. I remember Paul from many years ago of course. I was once told by your Father he thought Paul was a better minister and was proud of his abilities. Myself, I liked him for the short time he and I crossed paths. We wish you the very best ahead. Our prayers are for you and your family.

I will always remember Pastor Park's wonderful smile. No matter what mood you were in when you were greeted by him, you always left with a smile. His love and kindness will be missed.

Dr. Parks was not only our minister at Clayton Methodist Church but also a dear friend. He officiated at my wedding and also the baptism of my two children. I/we have numerous pleasant memories of Paul, Joyce, Aaron, and Brian. God Bless!!!
