Dear ones,



I have been out of town and did not know the sad news of Paul's passing until just this evening. My deepest condolences to the entire family. From the guest book entries, he was certainly a beloved person and will be sadly missed.

My deepest condolences to the Perna family.

In 1990, as I was going away to college, I applied for a summer job at Tops in Lockport. The hiring manager did not want to give a job to an 18 year old who just promised to return for the next 4 summers. Paul overheard this conversation and said that my word was good enough for him and he gave me a job. As promised, I returned each summer. As I soon learned, this type of good faith and generosity toward others were common for Paul. Many years later, during visits to NY, I would see Paul at Tops and he made it seem as though no time had passed. He was quick to welcome you with a warm smile, an equally warm hello and always asked how you were. Paul was genuine, kind, and one of the nicest persons I've ever had the pleasure of working with or knowing.

His passing is truly a loss to the many lives he touched. May God bless and comfort you.

It was a sad day for me to learn of Paul's passing! He was someone I looked up to during my 10 years at Tops in Lockport. During many visits to NY I looked forward to running into him, to say hello! He was a good man & a great leader, who knew all his customers and all his employees. He will always be in my memories!

Our family was sadden by the passing of Mr. Perna. We have shopped at Tops in Lockport forever, and Mr. Perna was always there to help with a smile on his face! When my son Kristopher worked there in the Photo-Lab he never forgot who Kristopher's family was and alway made a point to say hello. He will be missed.

My greatest condolences to all who will share in the loss of a truly great person. My relationship with Paul, through the Chamber of Commerce, United Way and other community endeavors led to a great friendship and affection. Paul was with me when I experienced a coronary event in 1995 and when we last met, we shared our triumphs over adversity, his over cancer and my heart transplant. I share your loss. I can only assure you that Paul will be always missed and in our prayers. The whole Lockport Community will surely miss Paul's tireless contribution and quiet leadership.
